On 3/17/12 Jay Thomassen, of Seward, was cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers for multiple violations pertaining to the commercial golden king crab fishery in Southeast Alaska. Thomassen, the permit holder on the F/V Angelette, was charged with commercial fishing in closed waters, retaining undersized king crab, possession of illegal crab and providing a false statement on his logbooks. Thomassen's catch was seized and the proceeds are held by the state of Alaska. The catch was estimated to be worth $88,622. Arraignment is scheduled for 4/18/12 in Petersburg District Court.

  1. This has got to be some kind of mistake. Jay is one of the better citizens I know, and an amazing fisherman who wouldn't have to cheat to win.

  5. One lost pot in Fredrick sound didn't catch 88k worth of crab. When Troopers haul your gear thier never get them back in the same spot , especially on big tides. The people who say he's cheating are the ones who suck at what they do !!!

    1. They should lock him up and remove him from the fishery! He's a black mark in an otherwise civil fishery

    2. No but Selling piles of undersized crab over the years sure does help the gross stock out

    3. Civil fishery? Haha half of the highliners out there have cheated at some point to get where they are. It's unfortunate but even the "honest" guys have been known to fudge or push the lines in most fisheries. He did deserve to get caught but come on if you think he's the only one then you have bigger problems. One another note, where in the hell do they buy undersize crab? No one including jay would keep undersize crab on purpose. There are a lot of good points to make on this topic but that was not a good one and now you're insulting the buyers.

  6. It sad when crew members get on here to stick up for Jay. The fact is that it wasn't one lost pot. Jay has been fishing extra pots and he has bragged about it for years! Lets remember that he cheated and got caught!

  10. So let me get this straight. None of you that are bashing him have ever made a mistake or have done something wrong? Does it make you feel better after you post your comments? Do you think he cares what you think or type on here? Since non of you bashers know the entire story and just have this forum to type your feelings. How would feel if all your wrongdoings were plastered on here or another forum for others to criticize? I know you bashers don't have any skeletons in your closet. Please! Sure he had undersize crab. You think he would purposely bring in undersize crab to sell to a buyer? And what buyer would purchase them? Sure he was fishing in illegal waters. It was ONE lost pot from earlier in the year. Someone else saw it and told him where it was. Before you start publishing your worthless opinions on here, go look in the mirror and ask yourself this queston. Would I like it if my mistakes were on here or some other forum, for anyone to post their worthless thoughts about my wrongdoings? OK I know, non of you have made mistakes. Please give me a break! Get a life! He's not the only one going to court after this years crab season. And if you are wondering, no I have never worked for him.

  11. To help you with any other questions about me. No I'm not married to him, I'm not related to him and I'm not him. Yes the "my wrongdoings" came in a rhetorical question for all you bashers. Keep throwing stones since your so almighty.

    1. Apparently all the people that read this website are too busy talking about people behind their backs to actually do anthing for themselves Jay found one lost pot and hauled it. Is that really that big of a deal? Is that something that anyone wouldn't do? Are our tax dollars really best used harrassing people that are out trying to make a living? What's next are the troopers going to start arresting people for j walking? Unpaid parking tickets? I think that all of you that want to remain anonymous should man up if you have something to say put your name on it. Daniel Crome F/V Arctic Fox
