Sitka herring seiner charged over costly collision

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Sitka
Type: Reckless operation of a watercraft
On 1/11/12 the Sitka District Attorney's office charged Daniel J. Crome, 35, of Seattle, with reckless operation of a watercraft, based on an investigation by the Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post. The charge stems from a vessel collision during the April 2011 Sitka Sound herring sac roe fishery, where the F/V Arctic Fox, operated by Crome, collided with the F/V Talia, operated by William Menish, of Petersburg. More than $40,000 in damage was caused to the F/V Talia in the collision. Arraignment set for 1/24/12 in Sitka District Court.

  2. Wes, why isn't this on the deckboss blog. He's one of the top fishermen in the state for 58 footers and this is a big issue in Sitka Sac Roe

  3. But Menish is such a loser, it hurts respectable fishermen to see him get the better of one of the state's biggest up and coming highliners.

    1. Menish is not a loser, he's a good fisherman and person, as most from Petersburg are. Crome is the best up and coming fisherman in Alaska, also from Petersburg, its just too bad this accident happened between 2 good people and fisherman over fish that aren't worth much.

This is a charge, not a conviction, so we'll see what happens after the hearing. Knowing both these guys, I'm positive neither wanted this accident to happen, if you watch the video, you'll see they turned away from eachother, not into eachother, but corrected their course too late to avoid it.
