From the Alaska State Troopers:
Location: Sitka
Type: Multiple violations
On 7/10/10 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, observed two males in a vessel at Medvejie Hatchery snag and retain a total of three king salmon in an area posted closed to fishing and closed by regulation to snagging. When troopers attempted to contact the individuals on the Medvejie fish pens, the suspects failed to stop their vessel as directed. One of the suspects and boat operator was identified as Jonathan W. McGraw Jr., 36, of Sitka. McGraw was subsequently stopped on Sawmill Creek Road by Sitka police as he towed his boat from the water. Investigation revealed McGraw and Joshua L. Gradin, 22, of Burbank, Wash., had dumped the three dead king salmon in Silver Bay shortly after fleeing from troopers. Both suspects were charged with failing to release snagged king salmon and waste of salmon. Gradin was also charged with failing to record a nonresident king salmon landing. Charges of failure to stop at the direction of a peace office and violation of conditions of release are being forwarded to the district attorney on McGraw. Gradin's total bail was $370. McGraw's total bail was $410. Both suspects were summoned to Sitka court for arraignment, on the waste of fish charge.
