On 10/28/13 Alaska Wildlife Troopers observed the fishing vessel Julie Ann after the 3 p.m. closure of the commercial sea cucumber fishery. Investigation showed Roderick B. Taylor, 45, of Point Roberts, Wash., operated commercial dive gear during a closed period. In addition, vessel operator Mark G. Barnes, 53, of Juneau, failed to register his boat prior to participating in the fishery. Taylor and Barnes were cited, with arraignment set for 11/13/13 in Juneau District Court. Samantha R. Barnes, 23, of Juneau, was cited for failure to have a valid commercial crew license in possession.

Homer man cited twice over vessel ID issues

Type: Vessel license, registration
On 4/2/13 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Seward Post, issued two citations to Nikolai N. Yakunin, 37, of Homer, on the commercial fishing vessel Wonder Worker, for failing to have a current vessel license number plate permanently affixed to his vessel as required and for failing to have current vessel registration paperwork onboard. Bail was set at $110 for the first violation and $210 for the second violation. An optional court appearance is scheduled in Seward District Court.

Arraignment set for 11/14/12 in Unalaska District Court.

Troopers charge Sitka pair with guiding violations

Type: Sportfish guide violations
On 11/15/11 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, charged Robert L. Warren, 34, and Michael R. Keating, 55, both of Sitka, for sportfish guiding violations. The violations are a result of Warren being observed with four clients on a chartered trip with Big Blue Fisheries while using a vessel not registered to sportfish guide. Investigation showed Keating, owner of Big Blue, had compelled Warren to charter the clients on a vessel Keating knew was unregistered and did not have saltwater logbooks assigned. Warren was charged for failing to register the sportfish guide vessel and for failing to obtain a sportfish guide logbook. Keating was charged with two counts of sportfish guide operator assisting in a violation. Arraignments are set for 11/29/11 in Sitka District Court.

On 6/10/11 Jay Beal, 32, and Trinity Jackson, 33, both of Metlakatla, were cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Ketchikan Post, for commercial fishing for halibut in Alaska waters without a valid interim use permit, and for fishing from a vessel which was not registered with the Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission. A mandatory court appearance was set for 6/28/11 in Ketchikan District Court.

Troopers ticket Prince William Sound shrimpers

Type: Failure to register, unlicensed crew
On 4/16/11 Alaska Wildlife Troopers from Cooper Landing and Seward contacted the F/V CC Ranger in Port Wells during the commercial shrimp pot fishery. Investigation revealed the vessel captain and permit holder, Clayton Nelson, 23, of Kenai, failed to register his vessel as required by regulation. Additionally, crewmembers Michael Jahrig, 23, of Soldotna, and Casey Mitchell, 24, of Sedro-Woolley, Wash., did not possess valid commercial crewmember licenses. Jahrig and Mitchell were each cited and Nelson was cited for failing to register his vessel in Area E and employing unlicensed crewmembers. Arraignment was set for 5/10/11 in Seward District Court.
