Troopers ticket fisherman in Sitka Sound

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Sitka
Type: Commercial fish closed period
On 4/6/11 at approximately 1610 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Sitka contacted Russell Snell, 52, of Hoonah, in the western part of Sitka Sound. Investigation revealed that Snell was fishing in waters that were closed and Snell also failed to display his vessel ID number. Snell was given a warning as well for possession of an undersize king salmon. Snell was issued a citation with bail set at $210 for the vessel ID number and Snell was additionally issued a summons for the closed
period and is due to be arraigned on 5/10/11 in Sitka District Court.

Troopers make a few Kuskokwim cases

Location: Kuskokwim subdistrict W-1A
Type: Vessel ID numbers, registration
On 6/25/10 Bethel Wildlife Troopers on routine commercial fisheries patrol in Kuskokwim subdistrict W-1A near Bethel cited Kurtis George, 26, of Akiak, for failure to display vessel ID numbers and failure to register a powerboat. Bail set at $200 and $50 respectively.

Type: Unlicensed crewmember, vessel ID numbers
On 6/25/10 Bethel Wildlife Troopers on routine commercial fisheries patrol in Kuskokwim subdistrict W-1A near Akiachak cited Frank Chingliak, 55, of Akiachak, for employing an unlicensed crewmember, and failure to display vessel numbers. Bail set at $250 and $200 respectively.

Type: No crewmember license
On 6/25/10 Bethel Wildlife Troopers on routine commercial fisheries patrol in Kuskokwim subdistrict W-1A near Akiachak cited Jeffrey Chingliak, 27, of Akiachak, for not having a commercial crewmember license while participating in commercial fishing operations. Bail set at $250.

On 6/25/10 Bethel Wildlife Troopers on routine commercial fisheries patrol in Kuksokwim subdistrict W-1A near Bethel summonsed John Mojin, 61, of Bethel, for commercial fishing during a closed period. Arraignment scheduled for 7/5/10 in Bethel District Court.

Troopers cite skipper in Hoonah herring fishery

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Sitka
Type: No vessel numbers
On 4/23/10 Sitka Wildlife Troopers cited Archie W. Demmert III, 49, of Klawock, for operating a vessel engaged in the Hoonah Sound herring spawn-on-kelp fishery without displaying 12-inch numbers. Bail is set at $210 with an optional court appearance in Sitka District Court.

Troopers find violations aboard C/P Constellation

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Unalaska
Type: Multiple violations
On 4/17/10 Dutch Harbor Wildlife Troopers boarded the C/P Constellation after it was noted that the vessel had no Alaska Department of Fish and Game numbers permanently affixed to either side of the vessel. Contacted as skipper and permit holder of the vessel was Robert Mackinnon, 59, of Camden, Maine. Crew members Paul L. Estes, 21, of St. George, Maine, and Hai V. Trinh, 39, of Tacoma, Wash., also were contacted. Investigation revealed that neither Estes nor Trinh had obtained a valid 2010 commercial fishing license prior to commercial fishing on the C/P Constellation. Estes and Trinh were both cited for crewmember license requirements with bail set at $260 each. Mackinnon was cited for employing an unlicensed crewmember as well as for his vessel not properly displaying its ADF&G number. Bail was set at $260 and $210 in the Unalaska District Court.

Captain ticketed at Dutch for lack of boat numbers

Type: No ADF&G numbers on vessel
On 4/16/10 Dutch Harbor Wildlife Troopers cited the skipper and permit holder onboard the F/V Viking, Bill G. Lock, 59, of Sammamish, Wash., for failing to properly display his Alaska Department of Fish and Game numbers on both sides of his commercial fishing vessel. Bail was set at $210 for the Unalaska District Court.

On 3/29/10 Harry M. Samato, 55, was cited for failing to properly display his Alaska Department of Fish and Game numbers on both sides of his commercial fishing vessel.

Skipper gets ticket for lack of ID number on pot

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Cape Pankof
Type: Improper ID of gear
On 3/19/10 Dutch Harbor Wildlife Troopers summonsed Dean Gould, 49, of King Cove, for improper identification of gear after it was discovered that Gould, who is the skipper and permit holder aboard the F/V Northern Star, stored a groundfish pot in state waters which lacked an Alaska Department of Fish and Game number. Arraignment is scheduled for 0930 hours on 3/30/10 in the Valdez District Court.
