Location: Sitka Sound
Type: Sportfishing from commercial vessel
On 5/11/14 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, contacted Roy E. Uber, 34, of Sitka, while he was sportfishing in western Sitka Sound. Investigation revealed that Uber and his vessel are currently licensed to participate in commercial hand troll fisheries and that he was legally sportfishing in an area closed to commercial hand trolling. Uber had sport-caught king salmon onboard the vessel which were not marked as sport-caught by immediately removing the dorsal fin. Uber was cited for failing to immediately mark the salmon, with arraignment set in Sitka District Court.

Sitka herring seiner charged over costly collision

Type: Reckless operation of a watercraft
On 1/11/12 the Sitka District Attorney's office charged Daniel J. Crome, 35, of Seattle, with reckless operation of a watercraft, based on an investigation by the Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post. The charge stems from a vessel collision during the April 2011 Sitka Sound herring sac roe fishery, where the F/V Arctic Fox, operated by Crome, collided with the F/V Talia, operated by William Menish, of Petersburg. More than $40,000 in damage was caused to the F/V Talia in the collision. Arraignment set for 1/24/12 in Sitka District Court.

Troopers ticket fisherman in Sitka Sound

Type: Commercial fish closed period
On 4/6/11 at approximately 1610 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Sitka contacted Russell Snell, 52, of Hoonah, in the western part of Sitka Sound. Investigation revealed that Snell was fishing in waters that were closed and Snell also failed to display his vessel ID number. Snell was given a warning as well for possession of an undersize king salmon. Snell was issued a citation with bail set at $210 for the vessel ID number and Snell was additionally issued a summons for the closed
period and is due to be arraigned on 5/10/11 in Sitka District Court.

On 4/9/10 at approximately 0749 hours, the vessel Nordic Son was documented commercial power trolling in closed waters west of the Sitka Sound winter troll line. The operator and permit holder was identified as Anthoney C. Sine of Sitka. Sine will be cited into Sitka District Court for commercial fishing in closed waters.

Troopers spot troller out of bounds in Sitka Sound

Type: Commercial fish closed waters
On 3/25/10 at approximately 1326 hours, a vessel was documented commercial power trolling in closed waters west of the Sitka Sound winter troll line by an Alaska Wildlife Troopers aircraft. Investigation on 3/26/10 revealed the vessel was the F/V Fireweed operated by Cleveland Eells, 19, of Port Alexander. Eells was cited into Sitka Court for operating commercial salmon power troll gear in closed waters. Arraignment is set for 4/13/10.
