Speeder arrested on commercial fishing warrant
From the Alaska State Troopers:
Location: Homer
Type: Warrant arrest
Troopers on 10/16/13 contacted Eric Haughey, 36, of Homer, for speeding. A search in the Alaska Public Safety Information Network revealed Haughey had an active warrant for a commercial fishing violation. Troopers arrested Haughey on the warrant and transported him to the Homer jail where he was remanded on $600 bail.

Fisherman charged with illegal lingcod retention

Type: Commercial fish closed season
On 12/14/11 Alaska Wildlife Troopers issued a summons to Nikolai Yakunin, 36, of Anchor Point, after investigation revealed he retained lingcod during a closed season while commercial fishing in June. Yakunin's arraignment is scheduled for 1/3/12 in Homer District Court.

Halibut fisherman cited over lack of CFEC card

On 12/12/11 Ace Keim, 31, of Anchorage, was issued a mandatory court citation for possessing commercially caught halibut without a Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission card while commercial fishing from the F/V Avery Taylor on 7/18/11. Keim's arraignment is scheduled for 1/3/12 in Homer District Court.

Reports of marine engine fraud investigated
From the Alaska State Troopers:
Location: Homer
Type: Assist agency outside of Alaska
On 9/14/11 at 1230 hours, the Alaska State Troopers began assisting Georgia authorities on a fraudulent business practices investigation where marine engines were ordered from a shop in Georgia via the Internet. A Homer resident received engines that were used and not the engines promised. A Wrangell resident has described similar fraud. The findings of the investigation in Alaska will be forwarded to Georgia authorities to aid them in their investigation.

Homer jig fisherman lacked permit, troopers say

Type: Commercial fish without permit
On 5/3/11 Alaska Wildlife Troopers issued a misdemeanor citation to Eric Haughey, 34, of Homer, for participating in the state Pacific cod jig fishery without a valid Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission permit card. Investigation revealed Haughey had made two trips without the original permit holder onboard and retained Pacific cod without previously obtaining a mechanical jig permit. Arraignment is scheduled for 6/7/11 in Homer District Court.

Teen misses commercial fishing trip, turns up dead

Type: Death investigation
On 1/10/11 at 1642 hours, troopers were notified that Alex Martushev, 19, of Wasilla, had not returned from a visit to the Homer area and he missed a commercial fishing trip from the Homer area. An aerial search of the area where Martushev was last seen resulted in his recovery. There were no signs of foul play. Martushev's family has been notified. The investigation is ongoing.

On 9/30/10 Alaska Wildlife Troopers issued a summons to Everett Anderson, 60, of Homer, for failing to submit state fish tickets to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game within seven days as required. The fish tickets submitted also lacked the information required by regulation. Anderson's court date is scheduled for 10/26/10 in Homer District Court.

Type: Anchoring commercial driftnet to beach
Alaska Wildlife Troopers issued a summons to 17-year-old Iosif I. Martishev of Homer for intentionally anchoring a drift gillnet to the beach near Silver Salmon Creek. Martishev also was cited for using an improperly marked buoy on his fishing gear. Arraignment is scheduled for 10/19/10 in Homer District Court.

Homer guide accused of halibut highgrading

Type: Sport charter fishing violations
In June 2009, Alaska Wildlife Troopers received a complaint that Brad Fisher, 38, of Anchorage, was believed to have committed multiple sportfishing violations while working as a sportfishing guide for a saltwater charter business in the Homer area. Investigation revealed that on 5/31/09 Fisher retained a number of halibut in excess of the legal daily bag limit for his clients. Fisher retained multiple small halibut in a bucket onboard the vessel. As bigger halibut were caught, small halibut were released from the bucket, some of which were already dead. Summonses to appear in court have been issued for Fisher on charges of illegal possession of fish, waste of fish, overlimit of sport-caught halibut, sportfishing guide aiding in commission of a violation, false entry in saltwater charter logbook, and prohibited retention of fish by a sportfishing guide.

Homer fisherman charged with excessive bycatch

Text: On 2/12/10 Dimitry V. Kuzmin, 32, of Homer, operator and permit holder on the F/V Avalanche, was cited by the Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Seward Post, for exceeding the maximum allowable bycatch in a directed groundfish fishery. Arraignment was set for 3/23/10 in the Seward District Court.
