On 1/8/23 Richard Scott Phillips, 37, of Wrangell, was issued a summons for two counts of commercial fishing while unregistered and two counts of failure to submit fish tickets within seven days.

On 12/11/22 Sean Gould, of Wrangell, was issued summons to appear in court for failure to finalize and submit a fish ticket associated with landing of his commercial Dungeness crab.

On 6/23/22 Mark Stevens, of Wrangell, was issued a summons for three counts of commercial seine fishing in closed waters and one count of falsifying fish tickets.

Child's call for help spawns big search at Wrangell

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Wrangell
Type: Search and rescue
On 4/20/16 at 1424 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report from the U.S. Coast Guard of a request for help on marine radio channel 16. USCG determined the call for help was from a young child who failed to describe their position. USCG sent a vessel and a helicopter to Wrangell to search for any boaters in need of assistance. Wrangell Search and Rescue deployed a float plane to search the area. All search efforts were unsuccessful in locating any boaters in distress in the area. AST has confirmed there have been no reports of anyone overdue in Wrangell. At 2119 hours all search efforts were suspended due to darkness and no boaters in distress were located.

Dungeness crabber cited at Wrangell

Type: Undersized Dungeness crab
On 6/18/15 Alaska Wildlife Troopers onboard the P/V Enforcer issued Breanna E. Miethe, 23, of Wrangell, a summons for retaining undersized commercial Dungeness crab. Arraignment set for 7/8/15 in Wrangell District Court.

Wrangell crabber cited over small Dungeness

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Heritage Harbor, Wrangell
Type: Undersized Dungeness crab
On 6/20/14 Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted Richard Phillips, 28, of Wrangell, on the F/V Carolyn Ann. Investigation revealed Phillips was commercial fishing for Dungeness crab and was in possession of 78 undersized crabs. Phillips was issued a summons to appear in Wrangell District Court for arraignment.

Dungeness crabber in a pinch with the law

Type: Commercial fish closed season
On 10/9/12 Luke Carrothers, 33, of Wrangell, was cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Wrangell Post, for commercial fishing in a closed season for Dungeness crab. A mandatory court appearance was set for 10/31/12 in Wrangell District Court.

Troopers seize king crab catch worth $88,622

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Wrangell
Type: Multiple crabbing violations
On 3/17/12 Jay Thomassen, of Seward, was cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers for multiple violations pertaining to the commercial golden king crab fishery in Southeast Alaska. Thomassen, the permit holder on the F/V Angelette, was charged with commercial fishing in closed waters, retaining undersized king crab, possession of illegal crab and providing a false statement on his logbooks. Thomassen's catch was seized and the proceeds are held by the state of Alaska. The catch was estimated to be worth $88,622. Arraignment is scheduled for 4/18/12 in Petersburg District Court.

Dungeness crabber draws $500 fine, probation

Type: Conviction — unlawful storage of crab pots
On 3/7/12 Abraham Mcintyre, 22, of Wrangell, pled guilty in Petersburg District Court to unlawful storage of commercial crab pots. Alaska Wildlife Troopers on the patrol vessel Enforcer in August 2011 located several of Mcintyre's Dungeness crab pots still in a fishing condition four days after the summer Dungeness season closure. Mcintyre was fined $1,000 with $500 suspended and placed on probation for one year.

Reports of marine engine fraud investigated

Type: Assist agency outside of Alaska
On 9/14/11 at 1230 hours, the Alaska State Troopers began assisting Georgia authorities on a fraudulent business practices investigation where marine engines were ordered from a shop in Georgia via the Internet. A Homer resident received engines that were used and not the engines promised. A Wrangell resident has described similar fraud. The findings of the investigation in Alaska will be forwarded to Georgia authorities to aid them in their investigation.

Troopers cite Wrangell sablefish fisherman

On 9/8/10 Charles J. Petticrew Sr., 65, of Wrangell, was issued a summons for failing to register an eastern Gulf coast sablefish permit prior to fishing from the F/V Arlice. Arraignment is set for 9/20/10 in Wrangell District Court.

Crabber charged at Wrangell over small Dungies

On 6/20/10 Bradley Sobjack, 48, of Bellingham, Wash., was issued a summons to appear in Wrangell District Court on charges of retaining undersized commercial Dungeness crab. Arraignment is set for 7/11/10.

Troopers cite Wrangell skipper for lack of ID

Type: Personal identification
On 6/21/10 Chad Ritchie, 32, captain of the F/V Bridgette Ann, of Wrangell, was issued a summons to appear in Wrangell District Court on a charge of personal identification required while commercial fishing. Arraignment is set for 7/21/10.
