Dungeness crabber draws $500 fine, probation

Type: Conviction — unlawful storage of crab pots
On 3/7/12 Abraham Mcintyre, 22, of Wrangell, pled guilty in Petersburg District Court to unlawful storage of commercial crab pots. Alaska Wildlife Troopers on the patrol vessel Enforcer in August 2011 located several of Mcintyre's Dungeness crab pots still in a fishing condition four days after the summer Dungeness season closure. Mcintyre was fined $1,000 with $500 suspended and placed on probation for one year.

Troopers say Chignik crabber stored pots illegally

Type: Illegal storage of crab pots
On 2/29/12 Benjamin Allen, 33, of Chignik, was cited for illegal storage of commercial Tanner crab pots. Investigation showed Allen had left his pots baited and fishing in Castle Bay after the closure of the Chignik District on 2/12/12 by emergency order. Allen was given an arraignment date of 3/22/12 in Naknek District Court.

Type: Unlawful storage of Dungeness gear
On 12/17/11 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, observed commercial Dungeness crab pot gear still stored in the water, after the closure of Southeast Alaska to commercial Dungeness fishing. Subsequent investigation revealed the pots belonged to Jeffrey R. Wolfe, 33, of Sitka. Wolfe was cited on 12/19/11 for unlawful storage of Dungeness pot gear with arraignment set in Sitka District Court.

On 7/6/11 Richard Scott Phillips, 25, of Wrangell, was cited for leaving commercial Dungeness crab pots in the waters of Seymour Canal after the closure of the commercial fishing season in that area. Arraignment set for 7/14/11 in Juneau District Court.

Juneau crabbers charged with illegal pot storage

Type: Illegal storage of crab gear
On 5/6/11 Norval Nelson III, 36, of Juneau, was cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers for illegally storing 15 commercial Tanner crab pots after the five-day gear storage allowance. Nelson III was acting as the skipper onboard the F/V Lovey Joann. Also cited was 24-year-old Juneau resident Barry Moala, the permit holder onboard the vessel.

Shrimper nets $3,000 fine for illegal pot storage

Type: Update — illegal storage of shrimp pots
On 1/4/11 Dennis J. Capua, 56, of Juneau, was found guilty of one count of illegal storage of commercial shrimp pots. Investigation showed Capua had failed to remove approximately 88 commercial shrimp pots out of Endicott Arm south of Juneau after the closure of the district to commercial shrimping. Capua was given a $6,000 fine
with $3,000 suspended. Capua will be on probation for one year and is not to commit any fish or wildlife violations.

On 5/28/10 Dutch Harbor Wildlife Troopers issued a summons to Jeffrey Burnell Davis, 52, of Chinook, Wash., for failing to place his golden king crab pots into a stored condition after he checked out of the Aleutian Islands golden king crab fishery. Arraignment is scheduled for 6/30/10 in the Unalaska District Court.
