Sound drifter accused of illegally anchoring net

On 6/25/13 Daniel Kuzmin, 21, of Homer, was cited by the Valdez Wildlife Trooper for anchoring, or otherwise fixing, a drift gillnet off of Esther Rock. Arraignment set for 7/31/13 in Cordova District Court.

Two Prince William Sound gillnetters cited

On 6/29/12 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Cordova Post, observed from a state aircraft the F/V Slash Zone operating a drift gillnet during a closed period. The investigation revealed Kenneth R. Utterson, 53, of Gakona, was the operator and permit holder on the vessel, and he was cited for the offense. Arraignment set for 7/25/12 in Cordova District Court.

On 6/29/12 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Cordova Post, observed from a state aircraft the F/V S Scape operating a drift gillnet during a closed period. The investigation revealed Leonty Molodih, 43, of Homer, was the permit holder on the vessel, and he was cited for the offense. Arraignment set for 7/25/12 in Cordova District Court.

Two Copper River drifters accused of illegal fishing

On 6/14/11 Danny C. Carpenter, 53, of Cordova, was cited by the Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Cordova Post, for commercial fishing a drift gillnet after the period closure. Arraignment was set for 6/29/11 in Cordova District Court.

On 6/14/11 William E. Straub, 72, of Circle, was cited by the Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Cordova Post, for commercial fishing a drift gillnet after the period closure. Arraignment was set for 6/29/11 in Cordova District Court.

Troopers accuse Homer teen of driftnet violation

Alaska Wildlife Troopers issued a summons to 17-year-old Iosif I. Martishev of Homer for intentionally anchoring a drift gillnet to the beach near Silver Salmon Creek. Martishev also was cited for using an improperly marked buoy on his fishing gear. Arraignment is scheduled for 10/19/10 in Homer District Court.

Petersburg fisherman fined $500 after gillnet plea

On 9/8/10 Terry J. Smith, 55, of Petersburg, pled guilty in Juneau District Court to one count of operating a commercial drift gillnet with undersized mesh. Smith was fined $500. The charge originated when Alaska Wildlife Troopers found that the beginning 10 fathoms of Smith's driftnet had undersized mesh. The inspection was conducted during routine patrol near Circle Point in District 11B.

Fisherman anchored driftnet illegally, troopers say

On 8/14/10 Jose Ceballos, 47, of Cordova, was issued a citation by the Valdez Wildlife Troopers for anchoring a commercial drift gillnet on 7/14/10 in Lake Bay, western Prince William Sound. Arraignment scheduled in Cordova District Court.

Troopers seize 6,467 pounds of salmon

On 8/6/10 Kiril Matveev, 19, of Homer, was cited by the Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Girdwood Post, for anchoring his commercial drift gillnet to the shoreline while commercial fishing. A total of 6,467 pounds of salmon were seized during the investigation. Matveev's vessel also was unregistered and he received a $60 bailable citation for it. Matveev was given an arraignment date of 9/1/10 in Cordova District Court.

Troopers make belated fishing case in Cordova

On 10-10-09 at approximately 1600 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers from the Cordova Post contacted Andrew Larson, age 29, of Stanwood, Wash. Investigation revealed that Larson was operating a drift gillnet in waters closed to commercial fishing aboard the F/V Mud Dog on 06-17-09 in the Eshamy District. A summons was issued to appear in the Cordova District Court for arraignment on 10-28-09.
