Drift gillnetters cited at Juneau

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Juneau
Type: Commercial fish closed area
On 6/28/15 Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted Cynthia Adams, 53, of Haines, captain and permit holder on the F/V Lady Hawke, after observing her operating a drift gillnet in the waters of District 11A, which is closed to gillnets. Adams was cited and must appear in Juneau District Court.

On 6/28/15 Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted Samuel Carter, 32, of Sitka, captain on the F/V Julie Ann, and David Adams, 29, of Sitka, permit holder on the boat, after observing them operating a drift gillnet in the waters of District 11A, which is closed to gillnets. Carter and Adams were cited and must appear in Juneau District Court.

On 6/28/15 Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted Brian Bitz, 56, of Hoonah, captain and permit holder on the F/V Prospect, after observing him operating a drift gillnet during a closed period in the waters of District 11A, which is closed to gillnets. Bitz was cited and must appear in Juneau District Court.

  1. These 3 incidents happened in area 15C, Lower Lynn Canal, not area 11 which is Juneau-Taku area.
    They were not pushing the line, fishing was very poor and I think they just were not paying attention.
