Suspicious activity, March 20 — Man from Texas reported he was receiving love letters from a woman he had befriended at the Grand Aleutian hotel, and the letters were upsetting his wife. The Texan asked for assistance obtaining a restraining order against his former friend, and was advised to contact the court for further information.
Motor vehicle accident, March 21 — A driver struck a light pole on a dock, knocking the pole off its foundation and into the water.
Animal, March 23 — Caller reported a bald eagle had made its way into the cold storage facility and seemed unable to get out.

Man arrested in Sitka herring fishery

Type: Warrant arrest
On 3/27/13, at approximately 1820 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Sitka for the herring sac roe fishery contacted Bryan Haney, 29, of Cordova, onboard the F/V Ace. Investigation revealed Haney had an outstanding warrant for his arrest stemming from a charge of commercial fishing during a closed season. Haney was arrested and transported to the Sitka Police Department jail where he was held on $500 cash bail.

Welfare check, Feb. 17 — Officers checked on dark-clothed drunk stumbling near the roadway, and ensured that he was capable of walking, on the sidewalk, back to his vessel.
Protective custody, Feb. 17 — A man who repeatedly asked officers to kill him and offered to sign a paper authorizing his own execution was taken into protective custody.
Ambulance request, Feb. 18 — EMS personnel provided care and transport for a man who had been struck in the back with a 35-kg block of frozen fish.
Welfare check, Feb. 19 — Caller requested assistance locating a young man who had not been seen or heard from since Feb. 10. Officers were able to determine he had taken a job aboard another fishing vessel, and was safe at sea.
Disorderly conduct, Feb. 19 — Officers responded to Icicle Seafoods regarding a recently terminated employee who was expressing his displeasure with the situation by throwing things about and kicking walls. After officers arrived, the man collected his belongings and left the vessel without further ado.
Trespass, Feb. 19 — Officer issued a trespass advisement, per Icicle Seafoods management, to a former employee who was no longer welcome on the premises.

Theft, Feb. 22 — $500 was stolen from a cash box at UniSea, several days after the keys to the cash box had been lost or stolen. Under investigation.
Ambulance request, Feb. 22 — EMS personnel provided care and transport for a man having seizures onboard a processing vessel.
Assistance rendered, Feb. 22 — Officer assisted EMS personnel with a patient coming in by tugboat.
Suspicious person, Feb. 23 — Officer observed someone who fit the description of a man previously trespassed from UniSea property, walking on the docks at UniSea. The man hid his face and then hid onboard a vessel tied to the dock. With the vessel captain's assistance, the officer learned the unidentified man was part of the vessel crew and had been hiding because he was not supposed to be drinking.
Drunk disturbance, Feb. 23 — Officer observed what appeared to be a fight outside the Harbor View bar, but which upon further investigation was simply good-spirited and intoxicated rough-housing.
Suspicious person, Feb. 23 — Drunken caller in Florida reported that her husband, in Unalaska, had threatened to kill her. She reported as well that her husband had tried to hit her 19 years earlier, but had instead hit their daughter. An officer asked the woman to phone with more information when she is sober.
Theft, Feb. 24 — Man spoke to police about a theft that had occurred six months earlier in Washington state; the suspect was allegedly working on a vessel that routinely visits Unalaska. Under investigation.
Fire response, Feb. 24 — Fire personnel responded to an alarm activation at Westward Seafoods. No fire was found.
Assault, Feb. 25 — Officers responded to a report of a fight in progress at a bunkhouse and found several loud, drunken revelers, none of whom appeared to have been in a fight.
Drunk disturbance, Feb. 25 — Officers responded to a different bunkhouse, where a man was supposedly threatening others with bottles. Officers found drunken revelers, including one who claimed to be so upset about a relative's death several years earlier in another state, that he felt compelled to pick fights with people tonight. One young man was cited for minor consuming.
Disorderly conduct, Feb. 26 — Officers responded to a bunkhouse where two men had challenged each to a fight because one's former girlfriend had spent the last night drinking with the other. An officer advised the men it was not worth going to jail over the woman.
Suspicious person, March 1 — Drunk reported that somebody was in his house. Officers responded and found the drunk and his brother, both of whom live at that location, in the house. The drunk identified his deceased father as one of the people in his home, but officers were unable to locate him.

Officers found drunken revelers, including one who claimed to be so upset about a relative's death several years earlier in another state, that he felt compelled to pick fights with people tonight. One young man was cited for minor consuming.
Disorderly conduct, Feb. 26 — Officers responded to a bunkhouse where two men had challenged each to a fight because one's former girlfriend had spent the last night drinking with the other. An officer advised the men it was not worth going to jail over the woman.
Suspicious person, March 1 — Drunk reported that somebody was in his house. Officers responded and found the drunk and his brother, both of whom live at that location, in the house. The drunk identified his deceased father as one of the people in his home, but officers were unable to locate him.
Ambulance request, March 1 — EMS personnel provided care and transport for a hallucinating drunk.

Sitka troopers charge two fishermen

On 3/4/13 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, charged Michael Mattingly, 40, of Sitka, with taking lingcod during August 2012 onboard a commercial salmon troller while the bycatch season for lingcod was closed by emergency order. Arraignment set in Sitka District Court.

On 3/4/13 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, charged Clifford G. Hudson Sr. with one count of failing to provide factual information on a fish ticket for seine-caught chum salmon in July 2012. Hudson failed to report chums taken in the Hidden Falls area of District 12, instead reporting the salmon to have been taken in another district. Arraignment set in Sitka District Court.

Arrest made in Seward bunkhouse assault

Type: Assault
On 3/2/13 at approximately 0327 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of an assault at the Polar Seafoods bunkhouse at mile 2 of Nash Road. Investigation revealed that Kenneth Woodard, 52, of Seward, assaulted his roommate, Brian Eby, 44, of Seward. Woodard was arrested and remanded to the Seward jail on the charge of assault.
