Dutch Harbor report

From the local police blotter:

Suspicious activity, Aug. 3 — Caller reported what appeared to be a white and blue, approximately 500-gallon, fuel tank floating in the ocean. U.S. Coast Guard personnel identified the floating object as a stationary mooring buoy.

Environmental, Aug. 8 — Approximately 50 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from a vessel docked at the spit when the fuel tender quit tending the fuel tank and walked away for several minutes. Cleanup efforts were underway by the time the incident was reported.

Drunk disturbance, Aug. 14 — Officers responded to a vessel on which a captain had reported an intoxicated, unruly crewmember who refused to leave the vessel. The man left willingly enough after five officers arrived on scene.

Missing person, Aug. 21 — Vessel captain reported his ship's engineer had left the vessel with their rental truck the previous evening and had not returned. Officers checked several areas for the rental vehicle but did not locate it. The engineer returned to his vessel of his own accord.

Trespass, Aug. 24 — A drunk toddled to the UniSea docks and planted himself in a doorway from which he initially refused to leave. Kiril Zahary Basargin, 36, finally left the doorway and wandered into the processing plant, at which point he was arrested for criminal trespass.

Welfare check, Aug. 31 — Caller expressed concern over an extremely intoxicated individual at the airport. Officer contacted the sot and found he was drowning his sorrows over the loss of his job. Several of his coworkers stepped up and agreed to ensure his safety.

Ambulance request, Sept. 1 — EMS responded to assist with a patient aboard a vessel.

Traffic, Sept. 4 — Harbor Department assisted in contacting a vessel whose sodium lights were causing a traffic concern.

Two salmon seiners cited at Sitka

From the Alaska State Troopers:

On 9/1/15 Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Thomas Scott McAllister, 62, of Juneau, for commercial salmon seining in the closed waters of Katlian Bay on 8/24/15 aboard the F/V Owyhee. Arraignment set for 9/22/15 in Sitka District Court.

On 9/1/15 Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Steven H. Thomassen, 51, of Wrangell, for commercial salmon seining aboard the F/V Marauder prior to the opening of the Deep Inlet fishery. Troopers documented the violation on 8/30/15. Arraignment set for 9/22/15 in Sitka District Court.
