From the local police blotter:

Drunk disturbance, Oct. 21 — Officers responded to the airport bar regarding an altercation involving multiple people, and found that two men had been wrestling — an activity in which they regularly participate — and had no intention of hurting one another. The participants and their audience left the area without incident.

Theft, Oct. 23 — Vessel captain reported a significant quantity of cod gear had been stolen from two container vans, sometime during the last four months, and asked for additional patrols of the area where the container vans are stored.

Suspicious activity, Oct. 25, 0230 hours — Vehicle owner said four men were in the parking lot at Safeway, trying to lift up his van. Officers determined several men from a U.S. Coast Guard cutter had dared another man to lift the vehicle off the ground.

Troller had undersized king salmon, troopers say

On 10/28/12 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, cited Arthur J. Demmert, 61, of Klawock, the permit holder onboard the F/V Ocean Bounty, for possessing an undersized commercially caught king salmon on 8/26/12. Arraignment set in Sitka District Court.

Dutch Harbor report

From the local police blotter:

Ambulance request, Oct. 14 — EMS personnel provided care and transport for a fisherman who had been electrocuted onboard his vessel.

Assistance rendered, Oct. 16 — Message passed on to a man at sea regarding a family emergency.

Assault, Oct. 16 — Officers responded to a processing facility regarding a fight between two drunken sots. The men had already been separated and denied anything more than wrestling with one another. No charges were filed.

Domestic disturbance, Oct. 18 — Officers investigated a noise complaint in a UniSea bunkhouse and discovered the clamor was due to a mother berating her daughter's lifestyle choices. Alternative lodging for one of the women was offered but refused.

Assist other agency, Oct. 19 — NOAA representative asked for assistance assessing the status of a weather radio tower, with which they have had numerous recent problems. An officer checked the tower and provided the information to NOAA.

Assist other agency, Oct. 20 — An officer conducting a traffic stop on an erratic driver later learned the driver was wanted on federal charges relating to passport fraud in New York. Luis Enrique Rodriguez, 46, was subsequently arrested on the federal warrant.

Environmental, Oct. 20 — Caller reported two people riding motorcycles through the salmon-spawning stream at Morris Cove. Alaska State Troopers offered to investigate, and responded to the area.

Civil, Oct. 20 — Fisherman complained that his captain had seen him drinking a beer, had told him he was in violation of the company's no-alcohol policy and had fired him upon his return to the vessel. An officer advised the fisherman that the captain was well within his rights to do so.

Sablefish harvester cited at Dutch Harbor

Location: Dutch Harbor
Type: Failure to register
On 10/15/12 Dutch Harbor Wildlife Troopers issued a summons to George Martushev, 25, of Mt. Angel, Ore., for commercial sablefish fishing in state waters without having his vessel registered with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game for the state waters sablefish fishery. Arraignment set for 11/14/12 in Unalaska District Court.

Welfare check, Oct. 8 — Officers checked on a man who had apparently passed out after inhaling paint fumes onboard a vessel. The man appeared healthy and declined medical services.

Suspicious activity, Oct. 10, 0201 hours — Officer observed a "Deadliest Catch" star urinating in puddle and advised the man, as he zipped his pants and denied any such activity, that it was illegal to urinate in public.

Suspicious person, Oct. 12 — Caller reported a strange man knocking on his apartment door, and believed it might be the same man who had earlier left messages with a ranting request to pray at the church.

Assistance rendered, Oct. 12 — Officer conducted a walk-through of the airport terminal after airline staff reported a number of people, whose flights had been delayed by several days, were agitated and disgruntled.

Black cod fisherman cited over lack of permit card

Type: Permit violation
On 10/7/12 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Seward Post, issued a summons to Donald Eugene Bridges, 54, of Anchorage. Investigation revealed that Bridges, while commercial fishing on the F/V Currency, did catch and retain 3,242 pounds of black cod without having a required Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission permit card for black cod. Arraignment set for 11/6/12 in Seward District Court.

Troopers say raft lacked license to haul sea cukes

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Tenakee
Type: Failure to license commercial vessel
On 10/2/12 Michael K. Reif, 57, of Sitka, was cited for using an inflatable raft to tender commercially caught sea cucumbers without having it licensed with the Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission. Reif's crewmember was using the boat to retrieve and drag back bags of sea cucumbers to their main dive vessel.

Dungeness crabber in a pinch with the law

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Zimovia Strait, Wrangell
Type: Commercial fish closed season
On 10/9/12 Luke Carrothers, 33, of Wrangell, was cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Wrangell Post, for commercial fishing in a closed season for Dungeness crab. A mandatory court appearance was set for 10/31/12 in Wrangell District Court.

Cook Inlet driftnetter receives court date

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Soldotna
Type: Commercial fish closed period
On 9/26/12 the Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Soldotna charged Elijah Porter, 34, of Graham, Wash., with commercial fishing with a drift gillnet in closed waters in Upper Cook Inlet. He was issued a summons to appear on 10/19/12 in Kenai District Court.

From the local police blotter:

Welfare check, Sept. 30, 0235 hours — An intoxicated man phoned police to report he was with another, even more intoxicated man and was worried this second inebriate might fall into the water while trying to step from the dock to his boat. Officers responded and attempted to help the second inebriate onto his boat, only to have him step from dock to air. The hold officers had on him prevented him from going fully into the water. He was eventually loaded onto his vessel and turned over to a sober third party.

Domestic disturbance, Oct. 5 — An intoxicated man told police that his wife's belligerent behavior necessitated him kissing her behind. Officers responded to the residence and found that both inebriated parties had already gone to bed.

Drunk disturbance, Oct. 6 — Officers responded to a Bering Fisheries bunkhouse after receiving a report that a confrontational and intoxicated employee was attempting to fight with other employees. Officers allowed the drunk to clean up his own vomit before advising him to go to bed or risk being arrested.

Drunk disturbance, Oct. 6 — A drunken, mouthy bar patron spit in another man's eye and was then surprised when "out of nowhere" he received two rapid blows to his face. The victim of the spit attack felt that justice had been served and no further action was necessary.

Trespass, Oct. 6 — Two men who had been involved in an altercation at the Harbor View bar were issued trespass advisements, per UniSea security.

Three charged, 1,395 pounds of sea cukes seized

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Ketchikan
Type: Commercial fish closed waters, unlawful possession
On 10/1/12 Matthew R. Pressly, 48, of Ketchikan, and Gregory S. Shaw, 34, and Samantha M. Pressly, 24, both of California, were cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Ketchikan Post, for commercial fishing for sea cucumbers in closed waters. The three were cited after AWT observed the F/V Lorelei diving for sea cucumbers in closed waters in Trollers Cove of Prince of Wales Island. Investigation revealed the vessel had harvested a total of 1,395 pounds of sea cucumbers from closed waters. The state seized the load of sea cucumbers, valued at $5,580. Arraignment is scheduled for 10/18/12 in Ketchikan District Court.

Two Metlakatla salmon gillnetters charged

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Nichols Passage, Ketchikan
Type: Multiple violations
On 9/28/12 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Ketchikan Post, charged Richard Burton, 60, of Metlakatla, with commercial drift gillnetting for salmon in closed waters on the F/V Miss Kris. He also was charged with unlawful possession and lack of a Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission permit. Burton was observed fishing on 9/18/12 in Nichols Passage of District 1F. Burton has a mandatory court appearance in Ketchikan District Court.

On 9/28/12 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Ketchikan Post, charged Trennis J. Hayward, 34, of Metlakatla, with commercial drift gillnetting for salmon in closed waters on the F/V Lil Coop. He also was charged with unlawful possession and lack of a Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission permit. Hayward was observed fishing on 9/18/12 in Nichols Passage of District 1F. Hayward has a mandatory court appearance in Ketchikan District Court.

Dutch Harbor report

From the local police blotter:

Forgery, Sept. 24 — A counterfeit $100 bill was discovered in a bank customer's deposit. Officers determined the bill apparently had been tendered the previous night at the Harbor View bar and had then been distributed with bar employee tips. The bank manager informed local businesses of the incident.

Suspicious activity, Sept. 25, 0208 hours — Officers found a drunk attempting to summit a processing plant building. The drunk, who had appeared to be talking to someone already on top of the building, denied that he had any companions.

Harassment, Sept. 25 — Processing plant employee reported being slandered by an unidentified coworker who had posted on Facebook a picture of the employee in a compromising position. Under investigation.

Protective custody, Sept. 25 — A rather intoxicated man who decided that a table in the lobby of the Grand Aleutian was a suitable substitute for a urinal was taken into protective custody.

Drunk disturbance, Sept. 27, 0250 hours — Officers contacted two intoxicated fishermen who were engaged in a deadly serious game of tug-of-war with a purple tutu, which both of them claimed as their own. Officers suggested they drop both the tutu and the argument, as it hardly seemed worth going to jail over such a flimsy issue.

Suspicious activity, Sept. 27 — Karl E. Rasmussen, 20, of Washington, was charged with false information and minor in possession of alcohol after he lied to officers about his date of birth and Social Security number after he was found passed out in a UniSea bunkhouse.
