Kodiak fisherman arrested on warrant

Type: Warrant arrest
On 10/5/24 Alaska Wildlife Troopers arrested Cory Dehning, 37, of Kodiak, for an arrest warrant for failure to appear for the original charge of commercial fishing in closed waters. Dehning was remanded to the Kodiak Jail with bail set at $100.

On 9/10/24 Kelly Broyles, 58, from Foresthill, Calif., was cited by the Alaska Wildlife Troopers for selling Dungeness crab without a catcher-seller permit in Kodiak.

Dungeness crabber charged at Kodiak

Type: Undersized Dungeness crab
On 9/9/22 Alaska Wildlife Troopers conducted a dockside boarding of the F/V Ambassador and charged Scott Badger, 52, of Ocean Park, Wash., with retention of undersized crab during the Kodiak commercial Dungeness crab fishery.

Fisherman charged, crab seized at Kodiak

On 7/19/21 Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Kodiak contacted Ty Rouse, 60, of Kodiak, as he was offloading commercially caught Dungeness crab at the Trident Seafoods dock. During the offload, troopers observed and seized numerous undersized Dungeness crab. Rouse was issued a summons to appear in Kodiak court on Aug. 6 for taking and possessing undersized Dungeness.

Kodiak crabber fined $25,000, pots forfeited

Type: Commercial crab closed season
On 11/2/17 during a patrol on the P/V Cama'i, the Alaska Wildlife Troopers pulled and inspected 156 commercial Dungeness crab pots belonging to the F/V Silver Fox, operated by Raleigh Eager, 47, of Kodiak. All 156 pots were baited and in fishing configuration after the season had closed on Oct. 31, 2017. The pots were seized and transported back to Kodiak. On 1/15/19 Eager pled guilty on multiple counts of commercial Dungeness crab fishing during a closed season. Eager was fined $25,000 and the 156 pots were forfeited to the state of Alaska.

Kodiak man charged with skate bycatch overage

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Type: Bycatch overage
On 2/19/18 Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted Michael McKee, 50, of Kodiak, aboard the F/V Tanusha. Investigation found McKee offloaded an overage of 748 pounds of longnose skate, which was 54 percent over his allowable bycatch of skate. McKee was issued a court summons, and the funds from the overage were seized by the state.

On 1/23/18 Alaska Wildlife Troopers conducted a dockside boarding of the F/V New Dawn. Following inspection of the Tanner crab being offloaded, Clifton Ivanoff, 31, of Kodiak, was charged with retaining undersized crab during the Kodiak commercial Tanner crab fishery.

On 6/17/17 Kodi A. Metzger, 37, of Custer, Wash., was issued a summons to court for having gillnet deployed in the waters of Alitak Bay during a closed period and for failing to have a photo ID in possession.

Kodiak man accused of interfering with gear

Type: Interference with fishing gear
On 11/15/16 Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted Robert Nelson Sr., 42, of Kodiak, at his residence. An ongoing investigation found Nelson had operated the F/V Katherine earlier this year and interfered with and retained commercial groundfish pots belonging to another commercial vessel. Nelson has been charged with three counts of interfering with fishing gear, a misdemeanor.

Man jailed in Kodiak over reported crew assault

On 8/26/16 Alaska State Troopers received a report of an altercation that occurred on the F/V Miss Destinee in Kodiak waters. Subsequent investigation revealed Kyle Mead, 39, of Anchorage, had repeatedly assaulted a crewmember during the 2016 salmon seine season. Mead was arrested and transported to the Kodiak city jail where he was remanded on one count of assault in the second degree, two counts of assault in the third degree and two counts of assault in the fourth degree. Mead was held without bail pending arraignment. All counts were charged as domestic violence related.

Kodiak man arrested as he disembarks vessel

Type: Warrant arrest
On 1/17/16 at approximately 2229 hours, Kodiak Crime Stoppers received a report that Darin Wolfe, 49, of Kodiak, was traveling to Kodiak onboard a fishing vessel. On 1/18/16 Alaska troopers and Kodiak police officers made contact with Wolfe as he disembarked from the vessel. Wolfe was arrested on two bench warrants regarding his failure to comply with conditions of adult probation. He was taken into custody without incident and remanded to the Kodiak jail on $7,500 cash bail.

Kodiak pair charged with illegal cod fishing

Alaska Wildlife Troopers received a report from the U.S. Coast Guard that they had observed the F/V Loki with its Pacific cod pots fishing within the closed waters around Marmot Island. Following an investigation, Ty L. Rouse, 53, of Kodiak, and Tyler J. Obrien, 27, of Kodiak, were issued citations for commercial fishing in closed waters. Arraignment set for 3/20/15 in Kodiak District Court.

On 2/2/15 Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted Keith Blondin, 27, of Kodiak. Investigation found Blondin had operated two vessels for commercial groundfish, but did not have the required vessel monitoring system aboard either vessel. Arraignment set for 3/6/15 in Kodiak District Court.

On 3/21/14 Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Jason R. Blondin, 29, of Kodiak, for using illegal groundfish gear during the state Pacific cod season. Blondin was the permit holder onboard the F/V My Beauty. Arraignment set for 4/7/14 in Kodiak District Court.

Coast Guard terminates fishing vessel voyage near Kodiak

KODIAK — A boarding team from the Coast Guard cutter SPAR terminated the voyage of the fishing vessel Arctic Storm after discovering numerous safety violations aboard the vessel Thursday.

The crew of the SPAR escorted the Arctic Storm back to Kodiak after boarding team members discovered six safety violations, the most significant being the 2006 expiration of the vessel's life raft and hydrostatic release.

The crew of the Arctic Storm was met by personnel from the Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment in Kodiak and will be required to correct all discrepancies before setting sail again.

Note: The vessel involved in this case is not the Bering Sea factory trawler Arctic Storm. Rather, it is a much smaller vessel.

Kodiak crewman arrested on warrant

On 11/13/13 Kodiak Wildlife Troopers arrested Chad D. Carlson, 33, of Kodiak, on an outstanding warrant for multiple counts of failing to appear in court and petitions to revoke probation. Carlson was a crewmember onboard the F/V Provider at the time of arrest.
