On 10/2/12 Michael K. Reif, 57, of Sitka, was cited for using an
inflatable raft to tender commercially caught sea cucumbers without having
it licensed with the Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission. Reif's crewmember was using the boat to retrieve
and drag back bags of sea cucumbers to their main dive
vessel.

Dutch Harbor report
From the local police blotter:
Welfare check, Sept. 30, 0235 hours — An intoxicated man phoned police to report he was with another, even more intoxicated man and was worried this second inebriate might fall into the water while trying to step from the dock to his boat. Officers responded and attempted to help the second inebriate onto his boat, only to have him step from dock to air. The hold officers had on him prevented him from going fully into the water. He was eventually loaded onto his vessel and turned over to a sober third party.
Domestic disturbance, Oct. 5 — An intoxicated man told police that his wife's belligerent behavior necessitated him kissing her behind. Officers responded to the residence and found that both inebriated parties had already gone to bed.
Drunk disturbance, Oct. 6 — Officers responded to a Bering Fisheries bunkhouse after receiving a report that a confrontational and intoxicated employee was attempting to fight with other employees. Officers allowed the drunk to clean up his own vomit before advising him to go to bed or risk being arrested.
Drunk disturbance, Oct. 6 — A drunken, mouthy bar patron spit in another man's eye and was then surprised when "out of nowhere" he received two rapid blows to his face. The victim of the spit attack felt that justice had been served and no further action was necessary.
Trespass, Oct. 6 — Two men who had been involved in an altercation at the Harbor View bar were issued trespass advisements, per UniSea security.

Three charged, 1,395 pounds of sea cukes seized

On 10/1/12 Matthew R. Pressly, 48, of Ketchikan, and Gregory S. Shaw, 34, and Samantha M. Pressly, 24, both of California, were cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Ketchikan Post, for commercial fishing for sea cucumbers in closed waters. The three were cited after AWT observed the F/V Lorelei diving for sea cucumbers in closed waters in Trollers Cove of Prince of Wales Island. Investigation revealed the vessel had harvested a total of 1,395 pounds of sea cucumbers from closed waters. The state seized the load of sea cucumbers, valued at $5,580. Arraignment is scheduled for 10/18/12 in Ketchikan District Court.

He also was charged with unlawful possession and lack of a Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission permit. Burton was observed fishing on 9/18/12 in Nichols Passage of District 1F. Burton has a mandatory court appearance in Ketchikan District Court.

Forgery, Sept. 24 — A counterfeit $100 bill was discovered in a bank customer's deposit. Officers determined the bill apparently had been tendered the previous night at the Harbor View bar and had then been distributed with bar employee tips. The bank manager informed local businesses of the incident.
Suspicious activity, Sept. 25, 0208 hours — Officers found a drunk attempting to summit a processing plant building. The drunk, who had appeared to be talking to someone already on top of the building, denied that he had any companions.
Harassment, Sept. 25 — Processing plant employee reported being slandered by an unidentified coworker who had posted on Facebook a picture of the employee in a compromising position. Under investigation.
Protective custody, Sept. 25 — A rather intoxicated man who decided that a table in the lobby of the Grand Aleutian was a suitable substitute for a urinal was taken into protective custody.
Drunk disturbance, Sept. 27, 0250 hours — Officers contacted two intoxicated fishermen who were engaged in a deadly serious game of tug-of-war with a purple tutu, which both of them claimed as their own. Officers suggested they drop both the tutu and the argument, as it hardly seemed worth going to jail over such a flimsy issue.
