Type: Death investigation
On 8/22/16 the Seward Police Department responded to a report of a deceased male near the Polar Seafoods processing plant. Initial investigation revealed James Woods, 58, of Wasilla, was deceased inside a vehicle registered to him. Notification subsequently was made to family members. Seward police requested assistance from the Alaska State Troopers, Alaska Bureau of Investigation, which took over case responsibility on 8/24/16. Troopers are continuing the investigation and are asking anyone with information regarding the death to contact the Alaska State Troopers, Alaska Bureau of Investigation in Soldotna at (907) 262-4453. Reports can also be made to Crime Stoppers anonymously at 283-TIPS (8477).

Type: Suicide
On 8/23/16 at about 0920 hours, the Akutan village public safety officer was notified of a suicide that occurred at the Trident Seafoods plant in Akutan. A Dutch Harbor-based Alaska wildlife trooper responded to investigate along with the VPSO. Investigation revealed a 36-year-old male was found deceased as a result of a suicidal act. No foul play is suspected. The remains have been sent to Anchorage for autopsy. The decedent's name is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.

Crabber nets $5,000 fine at Unalaska

On 4/5/16 James E. Wolkoff, 60, of Anchorage, pled no contest in Unalaska District Court to illegally possessing and/or delivering undersized bairdi Tanner crab. The court imposed a $10,000 fine with $5,000 suspended and a year's probation.

Burglary reported at Trident Seafoods in Akutan

Location: Akutan
Type: Burglary, theft
On 6/20/15 the Akutan village public safety officer received a report of a theft from Trident Seafoods. Investigation revealed Allan Aguirre, 26, of Ontario, Calif., entered living quarters for Trident workers and stole property valued at over $250. Aguirre was arrested for burglary in the second degree and theft in the third degree and held at the Akutan holding facility pending arraignment.

Trident reports natural death to troopers

Type: Natural death
On 11/08/10 at 0353 hours, the Alaska State Troopers in Dillingham received a report from Trident Seafoods manager John Babcock. According to Babcock, Tirso T. Tolentino, 50, of Hawaii, was found deceased in his apartment. Investigation revealed that Tolentino had been dealing with serious medical conditions and passed away of natural causes. After the investigation was finished there was no indication of foul play. Tolentino's next of kin was on scene and his body was later released to the family.

Troopers investigate Akutan stabbing

Location: Akutan
Type: Assault
At approximately 1201 hours on 4/26/10, a 41-year-old seafood processing plant employee, Rowel M. Gimeno, of California, reported that he had been stabbed in a bar in Akutan in the early morning hours of 4/13/10 during a physical altercation which resulted in him being transported by medevac to Anchorage for treatment. Gimeno sustained non-life threatening injuries and was released from the hospital the following day. AST Investigation continues.

On 3/9/10 Alaska State Troopers in Dillingham received a report of a sexual assault that occurred in Akutan a few days prior. Alaska Wildlife Troopers aboard the P/V Stimson were in Akutan on 3/9/10 and interviewed several subjects about the incident. The incident is still under investigation.

Crewman lacking license cited at Dutch Harbor

On 1/24/10 Dutch Harbor Wildlife Troopers issued a citation to Nicholas Randal Garner, 28, of Akutan, for commercial fishing without a 2010 Alaska commercial fishing crewmember license in his possession. Arraignment is scheduled for 2/8/10 in the Unalaska District Court.

Credit card fraud reported at Trident in Akutan

Type: Fraudulent use of credit card
At approximately 1150 hours on 10-22-09, manager Ken McHugh of Trident Seafoods in Akutan reported that unauthorized charges in the amount of over $3,000 to date had been charged to the credit cards of at least five of the company's employees. A suspect has been identified, and investigation is continuing.
