More charges filed for undersized crab

Location: Sitka
Type: Undersized Tanner crab
On 3/3/21 Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Ty Barkhoefer, 54, of Sitka, and Thomas Trager, 31, of California, for possession of undersized commercial Tanner crab. The charges are a result of an offload inspection on 2/28/21 when Trager, a crewman onboard the F/V Chelsea Dawn, was observed by troopers measuring and breaking an undersized crab in the hold of the vessel. Subsequent investigation showed there were undersized crab retained in the hold during the offload. Barkhoefer was charged as the permit holder and operator of the vessel.

Troopers cite another Southeast Alaska crabber

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Juneau
Type: Possess undersized crab
On 2/22/21 Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted Daniel Zeik, 54, of Juneau, captain and permit holder on the F/V Blueback, during a routine offload inspection. Investigation revealed Zeik was in possession of undersized commercially taken Tanner crabs. Further investigation revealed Zeik was in possession of sport-caught halibut while also possessing commercial product which was destined for sale. Zeik was issued two citations for the violations.

On 02/20/21 Jerome Dahl, 54, of Petersburg, permit holder and captain of fishing vessel Rebel Isle, was issued a citation for the retention of undersized Tanner crab.

Kodiak crabber cited

Type: Undersized Tanner crab
On 1/23/18 Alaska Wildlife Troopers conducted a dockside boarding of the F/V New Dawn. Following inspection of the Tanner crab being offloaded, Clifton Ivanoff, 31, of Kodiak, was charged with retaining undersized crab during the Kodiak commercial Tanner crab fishery.

Crabber nets $5,000 fine after Juneau trial

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Juneau
Type: Conviction
On 6/12/17 Daniel Foley, 70, of Gustavus, was found guilty during a bench trial of retaining undersized Tanner crab. Foley is the permit holder and owner of the F/V Steller. He was fined $9,000 with $4,000 suspended and placed on probation for a year.

Crabber nets $5,000 fine at Unalaska

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Unalaska
Type: Conviction
On 4/5/16 James E. Wolkoff, 60, of Anchorage, pled no contest in Unalaska District Court to illegally possessing and/or delivering undersized bairdi Tanner crab. The court imposed a $10,000 fine with $5,000 suspended and a year's probation.

Silver Bay Seafoods fined after guilty plea

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Sitka
Type: Conviction
On 11/15/13 Silver Bay Seafoods LLC pled guilty in Sitka District Court to one count of possessing undersized commercial Tanner crab. Silver Bay was fined $16,000 with $8,000 suspended, placed on probation for one year and ordered to pay $8,090 in restitution. The charge stemmed from a February investigation in which Tanner crab were measured on a company-contracted tender vessel. The vessel was found to have a high percentage of undersized crab, estimated at approximately 3,000 pounds, in one of several holding tanks onboard.

Silver Bay Seafoods cited over illegal crab

On 5/20/13 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, charged Silver Bay Seafoods and Silver Bay employee Eric Anderson, 38, of Sitka, for possessing undersized Tanner crab. Investigation in February 2013 showed a significant amount of undersized crab being delivered from a Silver Bay-employed commercial tender vessel to the company dock in Sitka. Arraignment set in Sitka District Court.

On 2/21/13 Ronald Blake, 44, of Cordova, and Seth Rockwell, 35, of Seward, were cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Ketchikan Post, for retaining undersized commercial Tanner crab and unlawful possession. Arraignment set for 3/21/13 in Juneau District Court.

Kodiak crabber cited over sublegal Tanners

Type: Possess sublegal male Tanner crab
On 1/20/13 Kodiak Wildlife Troopers conducted a boarding of the F/V Columbia as it offloaded commercial Tanner crab. During the offload it was discovered over 3 percent of the Tanner crab were less than the required 5.5-inch carapace width. James F. Eufemio, 49, of Kodiak, the operator and permit holder, was cited for possessing sublegal male Tanner crab on his vessel. Arraignment set for 2/22/13 in Kodiak District Court.

Tanner crabber nets $1,500 fine, forfeits gear

Type: Conviction
On 5/18/12 Ben Gross, 38, of Wasilla, pled guilty to a charge of retaining commercial undersized Tanner crab. Gross was fined $6,000 with $4,500 suspended. He also forfeited seized gear and was placed on probation for two years.

Martinsen was the permit holder of the F/V Jade Ann, and was contacted while offloading his catch in Petersburg. Arraignment set for 3/21/12 in Petersburg District Court.

Crab skipper, crew in a pinch over small Tanners

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Type: Undersized Tanner crab
On 2/25/11 Hoonah Wildlife Troopers cited 23-year-old Juneau resident and permit holder Barry Moala, who was taking undersized Tanner crab aboard the F/V Lovey Joann. Troopers also cited four crewmen: David Hammonds, Carling Cadiente, George Lindoff and Norval Nelson III. During the offloading of the crab, troopers discovered that 99 crab were undersized, which equated to approximately 12.6 percent of the vessel's load of Tanner crab. An arraignment date is set for March 9 in Hoonah District Court.

Undersized Tanners pinch Kodiak crabber

Type: Illegal possession of Tanner crab
On 1/26/10 Steven Suydam, 54, of Kodiak, was cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers for illegal possession of Tanner crab. The undersized crab was discovered by ADF&G during offload on 1/22/10 in Kodiak. Suydam is currently on conditions of release for a previous commercial fishing violation. A further charge of violating conditions of release will be forwarded to the District Attorney's Office.
