Crabber nets $5,000 fine after Juneau trial

On 6/12/17 Daniel Foley, 70, of Gustavus, was found guilty during a bench trial of retaining undersized Tanner crab. Foley is the permit holder and owner of the F/V Steller. He was fined $9,000 with $4,000 suspended and placed on probation for a year.

Petersburg seiner penalized $15K; troopers say explosives used to herd salmon from closed area

Type: Driving salmon from closed waters
On 10/12/15 Andrew W. Kittams, 43, of Petersburg, pled guilty to a count of driving salmon from closed waters while commercial seining in 2013. Kittams was fined $3,000 and ordered to pay $12,375 in restitution to the state of Alaska. An additional charge of using explosives to drive salmon was dismissed as part of a plea agreement. The conviction stems from a July 2013 incident at Hidden Falls Hatchery where Kittams' crew, onboard the F/V Sara Dawn, was documented using explosives to drive salmon from a closed area into an active seine set.

Two sablefish fishermen fined, lose catch value

Type: Sablefish overage
On 2/3/15 Cub Finney, 26, of Juneau, pled guilty to retaining an overage in the 2014 Northern Southeast inside sablefish commercial fishery. Finney was fined $500 and forfeited the overage proceeds of $4,396.73 to the state of Alaska.

Type: Sablefish overage
On 2/3/15 Richard Curran, 59, of Sitka, pled no contest to retaining an overage in the 2014 Northern Southeast inside sablefish commercial fishery. Curran was fined $500 and forfeited the overage proceeds of $3,343.45 to the state of Alaska.
