2 PWS gillnetters cited; one left net, troopers say

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Eshamy
Type: Commercial fish closed waters, unattended gear
On 7/2/11 at approximately 2040 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers from the Cordova Post received a report that Keith Edens, 21, of Homer, had deployed a drift gillnet in the Eshamy District then left the area, abandoning the net. Investigation revealed that Edens was operating a gillnet in waters closed to commercial fishing and not immediately supervising the operation of the net. A summons was issued to appear on 8/31/11 in Cordova District Court for arraignment.

On 7/5/11 at approximately 0400 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers from the Cordova Post contacted Daniel Strickland, 57, of Palmer. Investigation revealed that Strickland was operating a drift gillnet in waters closed to commercial fishing in the Eshamy District aboard the F/V Odin's Eye. A summons was issued to appear on 8/17/11 in Cordova District Court for arraignment.
