Troopers cite trollers, donate salmon to charity

On 8/14/11 at 1205 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, contacted the F/V High Pockets commercial power trolling for salmon off Baker Island during a closed season. Investigation revealed the vessel had retained eight king salmon before the opening of the season at 1201 hours on 8/15/11. Skipper and permit holder Thomas A. George, 56, and crewman Jared B. Barlow, 37, both of Klawock, were cited with one count each of commercial fishing in a closed season and unlawful possession of fish. Arraignment was set for 8/31/11 in Craig District Court. The eight illegally taken salmon were seized and donated to charity.
