Dutch Harbor report

From the local police blotter:

Traffic crime, March 8 — Forklift operators moving 50-foot-long conveyor belts across Ballyhoo Road created unsafe driving conditions for other motorists. A company representative was warned about the practice and advised to obtain oversize/overweight permits for such moves in the future.

Public safety, March 10, 2352 hours — An all-hands call-out of fire, EMS and police responded to the Unalaska Department of Public Safety to prepare for possible community evacuation in case tsunami danger for this area, following the 8.9 earthquake in Japan, escalated. Based on the information available and the existing tsunami advisory, an evacuation was not called for. Public Safety personnel remained ready for immediate deployment until after the initial wave arrival time (~0230) as a precaution. Residents are reminded of the Public Safety information hotline at 581-6080 for the most up-to-date information.
