Two Quinhagak men net big fines after guilty pleas

Type: Commercial fishing violations
On 10/12/09 William D. Sharp, age 52, and Robert F. White, age 41, both of Quinhagak, pled guilty in Bethel District Court to one misdemeanor count each of commercial fishing in closed waters, commercial fishing during a closed period, and unlawful possession, transportation and sale of fish. Sharp was sentenced to a total of $5,500 in fines, forfeiture of proceeds totaling $1,987, and two years probation. White was sentenced to fines totaling $3,500 with two years probation. The charges stem from the men fishing closed waters in the Kanektok River with commercial gear, fishing District W-4 Quinhagak four hours before the fishing period opened, and possessing, transporting and selling approximately 4,500 pounds of illegally taken fish.
