On 7/9/24 Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Robert Woodard, 65, of Washington state, for retaining and landing an undersized commercial troll-caught king salmon to a local processor.

Three salmon fishermen cited at Sitka

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Sitka
Type: Undersized king salmon
On 2/8/24 Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted Timothy Robinson, 64, of Sitka, during a commercial salmon offload to a local processing facility. Investigation revealed Robinson had landed one undersized king salmon and had concealed two additional unreported king salmon aboard his vessel. Robinson was cited for retaining undersized salmon and failing to report on a fish ticket.

On 2/7/24 Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted Cale LaDuke, 42, of Sitka, during a commercial salmon offload to a local processing facility. Investigation revealed LaDuke had landed four undersized king salmon. LaDuke was cited for retaining undersized salmon.

On 2/7/24 Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted Ryan Andrews, 45, of Sitka, during a commercial salmon offload to a local processing facility. Investigation revealed Andrews had landed five undersized king salmon. Andrews was cited for retaining undersized salmon.

On 7/13/23 Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Michael Pickett Jr., 39, of Sitka, for taking undersized commercial troll-caught king salmon. The undersized fish were discovered during an offload to a local processor.

Oregon man charged at Sitka with multiple offenses

On 8/5/22 Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Daniel J. Eells, 55, of Oregon, for retaining undersized commercial king salmon and failing to indicate partial delivery on fish tickets. Eells also was cited for retaining lingcod bycatch during a closed season.

On 7/4/21 Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Tracey Emanuel, 56, of Sitka, after investigation revealed he delivered undersized commercial troll-caught king salmon to a local processor. The undersized fish were seized.

On 7/6/21 Juneau Wildlife Troopers onboard the P/V Enforcer issued Jared Jillie, 32, of Juneau, a minor offense summons for retaining five undersized king salmon during the first summer king salmon troll opening.

On 7/9/21 Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Gary M. Hughes, 56, of Hoonah, for retaining undersized commercial troll-caught king salmon. Investigation revealed Hughes delivered the undersized salmon to a local processor.

On 7/9/21 Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited John Murray, 68, of Sitka, after investigation revealed he delivered an undersized commercial troll-caught king salmon to a local processor. The fish was seized.

On 6/7/20 Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Eric Jordan, 70, of Sitka, for retaining an undersized commercially taken king salmon in the Sitka Sound troll fishery.

Sitka salmon troller hit with multiple charges

The Alaska State Troopers today released the following:

Location: Sitka
Type: Undersized king salmon
On 8/30/16 Alaska Wildlife Troopers responded to a report of undersized king salmon on a commercial power troll vessel, the F/V Seanna, at a local processor. Investigation revealed permit holder and operator Cleveland Eells, 26, of Sitka, had taken five undersized king salmon, which an Alaska Department of Fish and Game representative identified during an offload as undersized. Eells removed the fish from the ADF&G representative's possession before any biological samples (heads) could be retained and dumped the fish, causing them to be wasted. Troopers later contacted Eells and additional undersized king salmon were located onboard which had been concealed at the end of a separate offload. Eells was charged by Alaska Wildlife Troopers and the Sitka District Attorney's Office with two counts of possessing undersized king salmon, failing to relinquish heads of marked king salmon, waste of salmon and unlawful possession. He was arraigned on 9/20/16 on the misdemeanor charges. Investigation continues into further charges.

Three king salmon trollers cited at Sitka

Type: Undersized king salmon
On 7/3/16 Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted Douglas M. Sutton, 56, of Sitka, during a commercial salmon troll offload. Investigation showed Sutton possessed four king salmon less than 28 inches in length onboard the F/V Lady Jillian. Sutton was cited for retaining undersized king salmon.

On 7/3/16 Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted Richard C. Urias, 33, of Sitka, during a commercial salmon troll offload. Investigation showed Urias possessed two king salmon less than 28 inches in length onboard the F/V Valid. Urias was cited for retaining undersized king salmon.

On 7/3/16 Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted Matthew J. Konoske, 51, of Sitka, during a commercial salmon troll offload. Investigation showed Konoske possessed a king salmon less than 28 inches in length onboard the F/V Infinity. Konoske was cited for retaining an undersized king salmon.

On 1/15/16 Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted permit holder Kelly Durgan, 54, of Sitka, during an offload of commercial troll-caught king salmon from the F/V Satellite. Investigation revealed Durgan had retained a king salmon less than 28 inches in length. The fish was seized and Durgan was issued a summons to appear on 2/9/16 in Sitka District Court.

Fisherman cited at Sitka over undersized king

On 1/15/16 Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted Troy K. Mutz, 48, of Sitka, during a commercial salmon offload. Investigation revealed Mutz had retained an undersized king salmon while fishing as the permit holder onboard the F/V Northern Star. The fish was seized and Mutz was cited. Arraignment set for 2/9/16 in Sitka District Court.

Troller kept undersized kings, troopers say

Type: Possess undersized king salmon
On 12/28/15 Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted the fishing vessel Pacific Pearl during an offload of commercial troll-caught king salmon. Investigation showed that permit holder Maxwell L. Royall, 26, of Sitka, had retained five undersized king salmon. He was cited for possession of undersized king salmon with an arraignment set in Sitka District Court. The undersized fish were seized. Royall also was cited for employing an unlicensed crewman.

Juneau troller charged with fishing closed waters

Location: Juneau
Type: Commercial fish closed waters
On 6/13/15 Alaska Wildlife Troopers observed a commercial hand troll vessel trolling in the area of False Point Retreat, nearly 15 miles from the nearest area open to trolling. Troopers contacted the permit holder on the vessel, Richard Catrett, 41, of Juneau. Investigation revealed Catrett had trolled in closed waters, and further retained two king salmon under the legal size limit of 28 inches. All of Catrett's catch was seized and he was issued two misdemeanor summonses for commercial hand trolling in closed waters and retaining undersized king salmon. Catrett has a mandatory court appearance in Juneau District Court.

Sitka fisherman cited over undersized king salmon

Location: Sitka
Type: Undersized king salmon
On 5/19/15 Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Sitka received a report from Alaska Department of Fish and Game survey staff of the F/V Oslo attempting to offload undersized king salmon at a local processor. Investigation revealed Ryan Jones, 30, of Sitka, had retained seven king salmon less than the required length of 28 inches. The seven fish comprised a total of 10 percent of the vessel's overall catch for that fishing trip. Jones was issued a misdemeanor summons.

Sitka troller draws jail time, fine

Type: Sentencing
On 4/4/14 Kristopher Foster, 37, of Sitka, captain and permit holder on the F/V Stardust, pled guilty as part of a plea agreement to unlawful retention of undersized king salmon, and waste of salmon. Foster was ordered to serve 30 days in jail with 20 days suspended, and fined $6,000 with $3,000 suspended. The undersized king salmon were forfeited to the state. Foster also was placed on probation for two years. These charges were the result of an investigation where it was determined that on 10/20/13 Foster had attempted to land several undersized king salmon at Sitka Sound Seafoods while participating in the winter commercial troll fishery. After the processor refused to accept the undersized fish, Foster attempted to dispose of them by feeding them to a sea lion in the Sitka harbor area to prevent being cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers.

Troopers deal citations around Southeast Alaska

On 6/24/13 Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Juneau cited David Williams, 43, of Juneau, for operating a commercial drift gillnet in closed waters in District 11A. Arraignment set for 7/10/13 in Juneau District Court.

On 6/24/13 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Juneau Post, issued Jonathan T. Pavlik, 31, of Yakutat, a summons for commercial fishing in a closed area. Arraignment set for 7/10/13 in Juneau District Court.

Location: Hoonah
Type: Commercial fish closed area
On 6/26/13 Brian R. Vaughn, 50, of Juneau, was served a summons charging him with commercial fishing during a closed season. Vaughn was commercial drift gillnet fishing onboard the F/V Kiksadi in the closed waters of District 11A. Arraignment set for 7/10/13 in Juneau District Court.

Type: Unlawful possession
On 6/28/13 Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted David Castle, 46, of Sitka, captain of the F/V Eyak, a tender participating in the commercial troll fishery, after receiving a report that he had bought a king salmon under 28 inches in length from a troller. Investigation revealed that Castle had been in possession of an undersized king salmon. The salmon was seized and Castle was cited.

Type: Halibut permit
On 6/30/13 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Ketchikan Post, cited John Nelson, 34, of Metlakatla, for operating commercial halibut longline gear and possessing commercially caught halibut without a Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission permit. A mandatory court appearance was set for 7/25/13 in Ketchikan District Court.

Type: Commercial fish closed period
On 7/3/13 Travis A. Bangs, 19, of Wrangell, was cited for operating a commercial gillnet during a closed period in District 15C north of Juneau. Troopers in a state aircraft observed the F/V Silver K deploying its gillnet prior to the commercial opening on June 30. Arraignment set for 7/10/13 in Juneau District Court.

Troopers ticket three salmon trollers

Type: Commercial fish closed season
On 6/13/13, while conducting a patrol utilizing a state aircraft over Yakutat Bay for a spring commercial troll fishery, Alaska Wildlife Troopers observed a vessel actively trolling into an area not open to trolling. Troopers contacted the operator of the vessel upon its return to the Yakutat boat harbor. Stephan Vale, 59, of Yakutat, was issued a summons for a mandatory appearance in Yakutat District Court.

Type: Undersized king salmon
On 6/9/13 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Juneau Post, issued commercial troller Mark S. Roberts, 55, of Petersburg, a summons for retaining a commercially caught king salmon under 28 inches long. Arraignment set for 6/25/13 in Sitka District Court.

Location: Frederick Sound
Type: Undersized king salmon
On 6/6/13 Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted Harlan F. Freeman, 75, of Petersburg, commercial trolling in Frederick Sound. Investigation revealed Freeman was in possession of a king salmon under 28 inches long. The fish was seized for donation to a charity. Freeman was issued a summons to appear in Petersburg District Court.

Sitka tenderman cited for small kings, marijuana

Location: Sitka
Type: Possess undersized king salmon
On 5/14/13 Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited David Castle, 46, of Sitka, for unlawful possession of fish and misconduct involving a controlled substance. The charges stem from an investigation on 5/10/13 which showed Castle, onboard the fish tender Eyak, bought and possessed undersized king salmon. During the investigation, Castle was found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana. Three undersized king salmon, drug paraphernalia and the marijuana were seized. Arraignment set for 5/21/13 in Sitka District Court.

On 4/25/13 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, contacted Frank White, 32, of Haines, the captain of the F/V Triad, as he was offloading king salmon caught during the commercial winter troll season. Investigation revealed White had retained two king salmon under 28 inches in length. The fish were seized and White was cited. He has a mandatory appearance in Sitka District Court.

On 4/20/13 Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted the F/V Freyja in Sitka Sound. Investigation revealed the vessel was engaged in the commercial troll fishery and owner/operator Joseph Wroblewski, 59, of Sitka, had retained an undersized king salmon. He was cited and the salmon was seized. Arraignment set in Sitka District Court.

Two Sitka fishermen cited

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Type: Failure to register
On 4/4/13 Benjamin Floyd, 33, of Sitka, was cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, for failing to register with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game prior to directed lingcod fishing in the Sitka area in 2012. Arraignment set in Sitka District Court.

Type: Retain undersized king salmon
On 4/7/13 Peter Dejongh, 43, of Sitka, was cited by Sitka Wildlife Troopers for retaining an undersized king salmon while participating in the commercial winter troll fishery. Troopers had contacted Dejongh on 4/6/13 as he was offloading in Sitka and discovered the undersized fish. Dejongh has a mandatory appearance in Sitka District Court.
