Troopers charge Metlatkatla gillnetter

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Ketchikan
Type: Multiple offenses
On 10/2/14 Alaska Wildlife Troopers charged Timothy R. Staples, 36, of Metlatkatla, with commercial gillnetting in Alaska waters without a valid 2014 Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission permit; fishing during a closed season; and unlawfully possessing commercially taken fish. All three counts are misdemeanors. Arraignment scheduled in Ketchikan District Court.

Metlakatla gillnetter accused of illegal fishing

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Ketchikan
Type: Commercial fish closed area
On 8/4/14 Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Dion A. Booth, 20, of Metlakatla, for commercial salmon fishing with a drift gillnet in a closed area of Nichols Passage in District 1F. He also was cited for having no Alaska Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission permit in possession. This offense was observed on 7/21/14 and documented by the U.S. Coast Guard. Booth has a mandatory arraignment in Ketchikan District Court.

Vessel operator charged with drunk driving

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Ketchikan
Type: Driving while intoxicated
On 4/4/14 at approximately 1425 hours, the U.S. Coast Guard received a report of an intoxicated boater near Metlakatla. At approximately 1510 hours, the USCG contacted the F/V Cape Ommaney at Walden Rocks, Nichols Passage, near Metlakatla. The operator of the boat was detained by the USCG on suspicion of intoxication. Investigation revealed Richard D. Olin II, 32, of Metlakatla, was driving while intoxicated. Olin was arrested and transported to the Ketchikan Correctional Center.

Metlakatla halibut fisherman charged

Location: Ketchikan
Type: No permit, unlawful possession
On 10/10/13 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Ketchikan Post, cited Jimmie Lynch, 36, of Metlakatla, for operating longline gear in Alaska waters without a valid Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission permit, and illegally possessing commercially taken halibut. The charges require a mandatory appearance in Ketchikan District Court.

Metlakatla gillnetter charged with fishing illegally

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Nichols Passage
Type: Multiple violations
On 9/17/13 Ketchikan Wildlife Troopers filed formal charges against Richard H. Dundas, 48, of Metlakatla, for drift gillnetting for salmon with no Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission permit, fishing in a closed period, and unlawful possession of fish. Dundas was observed commercial fishing on 8/29/13 in Nichols Passage of District 1F. He has a mandatory appearance in Ketchikan District Court.

Halibut fisherman lacked permit, troopers say

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Ketchikan
Type: Halibut permit
On 6/1/13 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Ketchikan Post, cited James Caspersen, 57, of Metlakatla, for commercial fishing for halibut without a Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission permit, and for possessing approximately 800 pounds of halibut without having a permit. Caspersen was given a summons to appear on 6/18/13 in Ketchikan District Court.

Two Metlakatla salmon gillnetters charged

Location: Nichols Passage, Ketchikan
Type: Multiple violations
On 9/28/12 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Ketchikan Post, charged Richard Burton, 60, of Metlakatla, with commercial drift gillnetting for salmon in closed waters on the F/V Miss Kris. He also was charged with unlawful possession and lack of a Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission permit. Burton was observed fishing on 9/18/12 in Nichols Passage of District 1F. Burton has a mandatory court appearance in Ketchikan District Court.

On 9/28/12 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Ketchikan Post, charged Trennis J. Hayward, 34, of Metlakatla, with commercial drift gillnetting for salmon in closed waters on the F/V Lil Coop. He also was charged with unlawful possession and lack of a Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission permit. Hayward was observed fishing on 9/18/12 in Nichols Passage of District 1F. Hayward has a mandatory court appearance in Ketchikan District Court.

Lack of halibut permit costs Metlakatla man $3K

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Ketchikan
Type: Update — no commercial halibut permit
On 6/28/11 Jay Beal, 32, of Metlakatla, pled no contest to fishing for halibut in Alaska state waters without a Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission permit. Beal was fined $3,000 and placed on probation for two years. Beal originally was cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Ketchikan Post, after he was contacted in June commercial fishing outside Annette Island waters.
