Two salmon seiners fined after guilty pleas

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Sitka
Type: Conviction
On 12/22/15 Steven Thomassen pled guilty in Sitka District Court to one count of commercial seining during a closed period. He was fined $3,000 with $2,000 suspended and placed on probation for one year. On 9/1/15 Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Thomassen, 51, of Wrangell, for salmon seining aboard the F/V Marauder prior to the opening of the Deep Inlet seine fishery. Troopers documented the violation on 8/30/15.

On 12/22/15 Thomas Scott McAllister pled guilty to one count of commercial seining in closed waters. McAllister was fined $3,000 with $1,500 suspended, ordered to pay $80 restitution, and placed on probation for one year. On 9/1/15 Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited McAllister, 62, of Juneau, for salmon seining on 8/24/15 in the closed waters of Katlian Bay aboard the F/V Owyhee.

Two salmon seiners cited at Sitka

On 9/1/15 Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Thomas Scott McAllister, 62, of Juneau, for commercial salmon seining in the closed waters of Katlian Bay on 8/24/15 aboard the F/V Owyhee. Arraignment set for 9/22/15 in Sitka District Court.

On 8/14/15 Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Anthony George, 38, of Bellingham, Wash., for commercial fishing during a closed period. The incident took place during the Neets Bay salmon seine fishery. A mandatory appearance is set for Ketchikan District Court.

On 8/14/15 Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Bryan Howey, 48, of Sitka, for commercial fishing during a closed period. The incident took place during the Neets Bay salmon seine fishery. A mandatory appearance is set for Ketchikan District Court.

Two Sitka salmon seiners cited

Location: Deep Inlet
Type: Commercial fish closed period
On 9/20/13 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, cited Jasper P. Allbrett, 33, of Sitka, for commercial salmon seining during a closed period. The F/V El Dorado was documented fishing on 8/29/13 in waters of District 13 not open to seining and outside of the line at the Deep Inlet terminal harvest area. Allbrett is the permit holder and operator onboard the F/V El Dorado. Arraignment set in Sitka District Court.

On 9/20/13 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, cited Dale A. Bartelds, 46, of Sitka, for commercial salmon seining during a closed period. The F/V Hukilau was documented fishing on 8/29/13 in waters of District 13 not open to seining and outside of a line at the Deep Inlet terminal harvest area. Bartelds is the permit holder and operator onboard the F/V Hukilau. Arraignment set in Sitka District Court.

Six Southeast seiners accused of illegal fishing

On 7/19/12 the following permit holders were cited for operating commercial salmon seines during a closed period:
• Patrick L. O'Neil, 59, of Lopez Island, Wash., on the F/V Saint Janet
• Nick Olney-Miller, 35, of Sitka, on the F/V Lucy O
• Delbert B. Kadake, 50, of Kake, on the F/V Jade Ann
• Jeremy C. Jensen, 37, of Petersburg, on the F/V Harvester
• Frank Wright Jr., 63, of Hoonah, on the F/V Vagabond Queen
• Christian W. Buschmann, 25, of Petersburg, on the F/V Ascension
All six men were given an arraignment date of 9/5/12 in Juneau District Court.
