Type: Sale of sport-caught salmon
On 3/10/13 Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Juneau conducted an investigation into a reported sale of sport-caught salmon at the Southeast Artisans Flea Market. Investigation showed Christopher C. Ruiz, 24, of Juneau, was selling jarred, sport-caught chum and smoked king salmon at the flea market. Troopers were able to make purchases. Ruiz was cited, with arraignment set for 3/27/13 in Juneau District Court.

Ketchikan man accused of illegal herring sales

On 3/7/13 Frank Bruno, 40, of Ketchikan, was cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers for unlawfully selling personal use-caught herring to individuals in Ketchikan. Arraignment set for 5/15/13 in Ketchikan District Court.

Troopers: Ketchikan sportfisherman sold halibut

Location: Ketchikan
Type: Illegal sale of sport-caught halibut
On 4/14/11 David Mason, 46, of Ketchikan, was cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Ketchikan Post, for illegally selling sport-caught halibut to local businesses in Ketchikan, using longlines to sportfish for halibut, and sportfishing on multiple occasions without a valid nonresident sportfishing license. This case was a joint enforcement effort between the National Marine Fisheries Service and Ketchikan Wildlife Troopers.

Two Quinhagak men net big fines after guilty pleas

Type: Commercial fishing violations
On 10/12/09 William D. Sharp, age 52, and Robert F. White, age 41, both of Quinhagak, pled guilty in Bethel District Court to one misdemeanor count each of commercial fishing in closed waters, commercial fishing during a closed period, and unlawful possession, transportation and sale of fish. Sharp was sentenced to a total of $5,500 in fines, forfeiture of proceeds totaling $1,987, and two years probation. White was sentenced to fines totaling $3,500 with two years probation. The charges stem from the men fishing closed waters in the Kanektok River with commercial gear, fishing District W-4 Quinhagak four hours before the fishing period opened, and possessing, transporting and selling approximately 4,500 pounds of illegally taken fish.

Troopers bust up illegal halibut sales scheme

Location: Klawock
Type: Selling federal caught subsistence halibut
On 08/06/09, at 1354 hours, Klawock Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted Donald Nickerson Jr., age 44, of Klawock, for posting a sign outside the Klawock post office advertising fresh halibut for sale. At approximately 1430 hrs, Klawock AWT caught Nickerson attempting to sell federal caught subsistence halibut from his motor vehicle in Craig. The case was documented by AWT and forwarded to the National Marine Fisheries Service. Nickerson Jr. is being charged by NMFS with the illegal sale of federal caught subsistence halibut.
