Type: Failure to license commercial vessel
On 10/2/12 Michael K. Reif, 57, of Sitka, was cited for using an
inflatable raft to tender commercially caught sea cucumbers without having
it licensed with the Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission. Reif's crewmember was using the boat to retrieve
and drag back bags of sea cucumbers to their main dive
vessel.

Juneau dive fisherman nets $500 fine

Location: Juneau
Type: Conviction — unlawful use of dive gear
On 2/1/12 Todd W. Hadfield, 34, of Juneau, pled no contest in Juneau District Court to one count of unlawful use of commercial dive fishing gear. Hadfield was fined $1,000 with $500 suspended and placed on probation for two years. Initial investigation showed Hadfield, as the permit holder, allowed a crewmember to dive on the fishing grounds using scuba gear prior to the opening of a commercial sea cucumber dive fishery.

Troopers cite two on multiple geoduck violations

Type: Dive fishing violations
On 11/26/10 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Ketchikan Post, cited Collin Darrah, 48, of Seattle, and Eric Riemer, 31, of Ketchikan, for commercially diving for geoducks during a closed period, and for operating commercial dive fishing gear during a closed period. Riemer additionally was charged with two counts of failing to properly identify commercially harvested geoducks. Darrah and Riemer committed the violations while diving from the F/V Patricia K in the waters off Cone Island, near Craig, on 11/18/10. The charges were filed in the Craig court.
