SE gillnetter accused of fishing too near creek

Location: Lynn Canal
Type: Commercial fish closed waters
On 6/21/15 Juneau Wildlife Troopers observed the F/V Yarrow commercial gillnetting within 500 yards of Bessie Creek in Lynn Canal. Bessie Creek is a documented salmon stream, and commercial fishing is prohibited within 500 yards of salmon streams. The captain and permit holder on the Yarrow, Stefan Fritz, 45, of Lakebay, Wash., was issued a citation for commercial fishing in closed waters. Fritz has a mandatory court appearance in Juneau District Court.

Haines fisherman charged with double violation

Location: Juneau
Type: Commercial fish closed period
On 11/29/12 Alaska Wildlife Troopers issued Wayne Chambers, 46, of Haines, two summonses for commercial fishing during a closed period. Chambers was observed fishing during a closed period on July 8 and 10 in Lynn Canal north of Point Bridget. He was given a court date of 12/20/12 in Juneau District Court.

Three gillnetters cited, salmon seized at Juneau

Location: Juneau, Lynn Canal
Type: Commercial fish closed period
On 7/3/11 Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Juneau observed the F/V High Surf fishing with a commercial drift gillnet north of latitude of Point Bridget during a closed period in Lynn Canal. Troopers issued the permit holder, Marty Smith, 41, of Haines, a summons to appear on 7/14/11 in Juneau District Court. Additionally, 294 pounds of salmon were seized.

Type: Commercial fish closed period
On 7/3/11 Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Juneau observed the F/V Sue Renee fishing with a commercial drift gillnet north of latitude of Point Bridget during a closed period in Lynn Canal. Troopers issued the permit holder, Silas Flor, 31, of Petersburg, a summons to appear on 7/14/11 in Juneau District Court. Additionally, 689 pounds of salmon were seized.

On 7/3/11 Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Juneau observed the F/V Red Witch fishing with a commercial drift gillnet north of latitude of Point Bridget during a closed period in Lynn Canal. Troopers issued the permit holder, Ronald Martin, 69, of Haines, a summons to appear on 7/14/11 in Juneau District Court. Additionally, 1,625 pounds of
salmon were seized.

Tendermen ticketed over lack of crew license

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Juneau
Type: No crew license
On 6/21/10 at approximately 1750 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers boarded the tender vessel Pacific Horizon north of Benjamin Island in Lynn Canal. The vessel was tendering salmon for the gillnet fishery. During the contact Nicholas McQuaid, 30, of Washington, was cited for not having a crewmember license. Mike Worthington, 60, of Kake, was cited for employing an unlicensed crewmember. Both were issued bailable citations for $260 and given an optional court appearance date of 7/7/10 in the Juneau District Court.
