Sitka troller kept undersized kings, troopers say

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Sitka
Type: Undersized king salmon
On 8/23/22 Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted Ryan Andrews, 43, of Sitka, during a commercial troll offload to a local processor. Investigation revealed Andrews had retained three king salmon less than 28 inches in length. He was cited with an arraignment set in Sitka District Court.

Petersburg man cited over undersized king crab

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Petersburg
Type: Undersized king crab
On 5/20/16 Yancey Nilsen, 43, of Petersburg, was cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers for retaining undersized commercial golden king crab. Nilsen, the captain and permit holder aboard the F/V Aleutian Dream, retained and delivered golden king crab that were not 7 inches in width of shell. Arraignment scheduled for 6/14/16 in Petersburg.

Crabber cited, undersized catch released alive

Location: Juneau
Type: Undersized king crab
On 2/21/16 Alaska Wildlife Troopers conducted a commercial golden king crab dockside inspection of the F/V Steller at the Alaska Glacier Seafoods dock in Juneau. Investigation showed skipper Daniel Foley, 68, of Gustavus, had caught and retained 23 undersized golden king crab out of a total of 151 crab. Foley was issued a summons for the violation. After documenting the undersized crab, troopers were able to return them to the sea alive. Arraignment set for 3/18/16 in Juneau District Court.

Crab captain charged at Dutch Harbor

Type: Undersized red king crab
On 11/6/14 Dutch Harbor Wildlife Troopers issued a citation to Elliott Nicadimas Neese, 32, of Homer, for possessing undersized red king crab onboard the F/V Saga while he was the master and permit holder of the vessel. Arraignment set for 11/13/14 in Unalaska District Court.

Petersburg crabber nets $3K fine, forfeits catch

Location: Petersburg
Type: Conviction
On 4/1/14 Jared Bright, 39, of Petersburg, the permit holder aboard the F/V Obsession, was convicted of retaining undersized golden king crab. The conviction is the result of an Alaska Wildlife Troopers investigation that showed Bright delivered commercially caught golden king crab that were less than 7 inches in width of shell. Bright was convicted of a misdemeanor and sentenced to pay $8,000 with $5,000 suspended and placed on probation for two years. Bright forfeited the undersized crab to the state of Alaska.

On 3/13/14 Alaska Wildlife Troopers charged Jared Bright, 39, of Petersburg, the permit holder on the F/V Obsession, with retaining undersized commercial golden king crab. He was issued a summons to appear on 4/1/14 in Petersburg District Court.

Troopers cite three Sitka trollers

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Sitka
Type: Commercial fish closed waters
On 6/27/13 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, contacted Albert Duncan Sr., 72, of Sitka, after he was observed hand trolling in the Western Channel troll fishery area, which was closed. Investigation revealed Duncan was indeed commercial trolling. He was issued a summons to appear in Sitka District Court.

On 6/27/13 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, contacted Arthur Eells, 53, of Sitka, after he was observed commercial trolling in the Deep Inlet terminal harvest area, which was closed to trolling. Eells was issued a citation with a mandatory appearance in Sitka District Court.

On 6/27/13 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, cited Arthur Eells, 30, of Sitka for retaining a king salmon under 28 inches in length while participating in the spring troll fishery. Eells was cited as the result of an inspection of his catch during an offload at Sitka Sound Seafoods.

Petersburg man fined over small king crab

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Petersburg
Type: Conviction
On 4/16/13 Jeb Phillips, 25, of Petersburg, pled no contest to possession of undersized golden king crab. Phillips, the commercial permit holder on the F/V Lone Fisherman, was cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers on 3/17/13 when undersized golden king crab were observed in his delivery to the fish processor. Phillips was fined $3,000 with $2,250 suspended and placed on probation for one year.

Type: Retain undersized king crab
On 3/7/13 Jeb Phillips, 25, of Petersburg, was cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Petersburg Post, for retaining undersized commercial golden king crab. Phillips was the permit holder on the F/V Lone Fisherman and was contacted in Petersburg during an offload of the crab. Arraignment set for 4/9/13 in Petersburg District Court.

Southeast crabber convicted, forfeits $88K catch

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Petersburg
Type: Conviction — crabbing violations
On 9/18/12 Jay Thomassen, the permit holder on the F/V Angelette, was convicted of two misdemeanor counts. The charges were the result of an Alaska Wildlife Troopers investigation that showed Thomassen committed several commercial fishing violations during the 2012 golden king crab season. Thomassen pled guilty to one count of fishing in closed waters and one count of retaining undersized golden king crab. He was ordered to pay $6,000 and forfeit his catch valued at $88,222.20 to the state of Alaska.

Blue king crab were undersized, troopers say

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Dutch Harbor
Type: Possession of undersized crab
On 12/15/11 Elliot Neese, 29, of Homer, was cited by Dutch Harbor Wildlife Troopers for possession of undersized blue king crab onboard the F/V Ramblin Rose. The undersized blue king crab amounted to 5.5 percent and were seized and forfeited to the state. Neese was given an arraignment date of 1/4/12 in Unalaska District Court.
