Troopers charge an Australian

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Elfin Cove
Type: Unsworn falsification
On 8/7/22 Alaska Wildlife Troopers found that Jacob Kumma, 36, of Australia, was possibly making false statements on commercial fishing documents as well as sportfishing documents. On 9/13/22 Alaska Wildlife Troopers were able to locate Kumma in Elfin Cove, where he claimed to live. Investigation revealed Kumma had made false statements on both his commercial fishing permit and sportfishing license as he is a resident of Australia. He was charged with unsworn falsification and issued a citation for false statement on a license application.

Man charged with falsely claiming Alaska residency

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Type: Residency investigation
On 5/25/16 Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted 58-year-old Peter Most from Seattle following a residency investigation. The investigation revealed Most claimed Alaska residency on multiple Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission applications when he did not meet the requirements of Alaska residency. He also provided a false Alaska address on several Division of Motor Vehicles forms and applications. Most was charged with 10 counts of unsworn falsification. Arraignment set for 6/15/16 in Naknek.

Second Tanaku Lodge owner charged

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Sitka
Type: Residency investigation
James Benton, 44, part owner and operator of Tanaku Lodge in Elfin Cove, was charged by Sitka Wildlife Troopers on 1/25/13 with 10 counts of making a false statement on a license application, harvest ticket or permit; 12 counts of unsworn falsification; and one count of nonresident failing to obtain a locking tag prior to harvesting deer. The charges were the result of an investigation into Benton's claims of residency. The investigation revealed that from 2007-12, Benton had obtained various licenses, harvest tickets and permits when he did not meet residency requirements. Benton also obtained resident commercial fishing permits from 2007-12 under a claim of residency when he did not meet requirements. Benton has a mandatory court appearance in Sitka District Court.

Lodge owner charged with false residency claims

Location: Sitka
Type: Residency investigation
Dennis Meier, 57, part owner and operator of Tanaku Lodge in Elfin Cove, was charged by Sitka Wildlife Troopers on 1/17/13 with one count of making a false statement on a sportfish license application and five counts of unsworn falsification. The charges were the result of an investigation into Meier's claims of residency. Investigation revealed that in 2008, Meier had obtained a resident sportfish license when he did not meet residency requirements. Meier also obtained resident commercial fishing permits from 2008-12 under a claim of residency when he did not meet requirements. Meier has a mandatory court appearance in Sitka District Court.

Sitka lodge owners accused of lying on license applications; Ohaus heads charter organization

Type: False statement on sportfishing license
On 5/25/12 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, cited Thomas C. Ohaus, 59, of South Dartmouth, Mass., for multiple violations related to claiming residency on sportfishing licenses. Investigation revealed Ohaus, a sportfish guide and co-owner of a sportfishing lodge, falsely obtained Alaska resident licenses since at least 2007 while residing in Massachusetts. Ohaus is charged with five counts of knowingly making a false statement on an application for a sportfish license. Arraignment is set in Sitka District Court.

On 5/25/12 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, cited Charles A. McNamee, 36, of Nevis, Minn., for multiple violations related to claiming residency on sportfishing licenses. Investigation revealed McNamee, a sportfish guide and co-owner of a sportfishing lodge, falsely obtained Alaska resident licenses since at least 2007 while residing in Minnesota. McNamee is charged with five counts of knowingly making a false statement on an application for a sportfish license. Arraignment is set in Sitka District Court.

Ohaus and McNamee are co-owners of Angling Unlimited, a Sitka lodge that runs halibut and salmon sportfishing charters. Ohaus is president of SEAGO, a nonprofit organization representing the Southeast Alaska charter industry. The two men have an arraignment date of June 26.

Troller cited on false residency claims

Type: False statements
On 4/23/12 Daniel Brigham, 61, a resident of Rebersburg, Pa., was cited by Hoonah Wildlife Troopers for unlawfully obtaining resident sportfish licenses from 2007-10, and commercial power troll permits from 2008-11. Brigham had claimed to live on his commercial fishing boat, the Camijo, in Sitka from 2007-11. Subsequent investigation revealed that he has only spent a few summer months in Alaska each year before returning to his house and hatchery business in Pennsylvania.

False residency claims net man $5,000 in fines

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Yakutat
Type: Conviction — unsworn falsification
On 3/29/12 David Negus was sentenced in Yakutat District Court for his conviction of five counts of unsworn falsification. For each count Negus was sentenced to a $2,500 fine with $1,500 suspended and 30 days in jail with 30 suspended, and for the whole case he was sentenced to five years of probation. Fines to pay totaled $5,000. From 2007 through 2011, Negus had applied for an Alaska resident Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission permit, but he was not eligible for the resident permits.

CFEC records indicate Negus holds a Yakutat salmon setnet permit. His address is listed as a postal box at Yakutat.

Troopers accuse Maine man of permit falsification

Type: Unsworn falsification
On 12/1/10 Dutch Harbor Wildlife Troopers issued a summons to Crosby Gillan Leveen, 30, of Manchester, Maine, for receiving a 2010 Alaska resident Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission permit card without meeting the residency requirements set out by the CFEC. Arraignment is scheduled for 12/22/10 in Unalaska District Court.
