Bering Sea crabber nets $1,500 fine

Location: Dutch Harbor
Type: Conviction
On 5/5/16 Richard Morton, 62, of Mukilteo, Wash., pled guilty in Unalaska District Court to unlawfully possessing and/or delivering commercially caught opilio Tanner crab during a closed season in the eastern Bering Sea District. The court imposed a $3,000 fine with $1,500 suspended and one year of probation.

Bering Sea crabber fined, forfeits nearly $14K

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Dutch Harbor
Type: Conviction
On 5/5/16 Robert J. Perkey, 53, of Sublimity, Ore., pled guilty in Unalaska District Court to unlawfully possessing and/or delivering commercially caught opilio Tanner crab during a closed season in the eastern Bering Sea District. The court imposed a $2,000 fine and a check in the amount of $13,992.29 was forfeited to the state for the value of illegal shellfish.

Opilio crabber charged with illegal possession

Type: Illegal possession of female opilio
On 4/2/15 Alaska Wildlife Troopers issued a citation to Derwin H. Hostetler, 59, of Seattle, for illegal possession of female opilio crab onboard the F/V Bering Star. Arraignment set for 4/23/15 in Unalaska District Court.

Crabber charged with illegal possession of females

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Dutch Harbor
Type: Illegal possession of female crab
On 2/19/14 Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited William E. Swimelar, 54, of Bothell, Wash., for illegal possession of female opilio and bairdi crab aboard the F/V Barbara J. Swimelar also was cited for failing to register or check into the fishery with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game prior to fishing. Arraignment set for 3/5/14 in Unalaska District Court.

Crabber cited over female opilio possession

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Dutch Harbor
Type: Possession of female opilio crab
On 5/31/12 Spencer Bronson, 61, of Washington state, was cited by Dutch Harbor Wildlife Troopers for possession of female opilio crab onboard the F/V Bulldog. The female opilio totaled 4.6 percent of the random sample conducted at the time of offload. Bronson was given an arraignment date of 7/18/12 in Unalaska District Court.

On 5/31/12 Dutch Harbor Wildlife Troopers issued a summons to Derwin Hutchinson Hostetler, 57, of Seattle, for possessing female opilio crab onboard his commercial fishing vessel the F/V Bering Star. Arraignment is scheduled for 7/18/12 in Unalaska District Court.

Three cited at Dutch Harbor over female opilio

Type: Possess female opilio crab
On 5/29/12 Dutch Harbor Wildlife Troopers issued a summons to Gordon Eric Kristjanson, 55, of Woodinville, Wash., for possessing female opilio crab onboard his commercial fishing vessel. Arraignment is scheduled for 7/18/12 in Unalaska District Court.

On 5/29/12 David Martin, 44, of Homer, was cited by Dutch Harbor Wildlife Troopers for possession of female opilio crab onboard the F/V Kona Kai. The female opilio crab totaled 2 percent of the random sample conducted at the time of offload. Martin was given an arraignment date of 7/18/12 in Unalaska District Court.

On 5/29/12 Dutch Harbor Wildlife Troopers issued a summons to Moore William Dye, 46, of Battle Ground, Wash., for possessing female opilio crab onboard his commercial fishing vessel. Arraignment is scheduled for 7/18/12 in Unalaska District Court.

Vessel captain fined for improper opilio gear

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Unalaska
Type: Update — improper crab pots
On 3/3/10 John Duane Nes, 38, of Edmonds, Wash., pled guilty in the Unalaska District Court to the charge of improper mesh size on his opilio crab pot gear. Nes, who is the captain of the F/V Aleutian Spray, was fined $3,000 with $2,000 suspended and placed on one year probation.
