Troopers crack down on herring pounders

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Vixen Inlet
Type: Failure to release herring
On 4/20/14 Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Donald Durgan, 62, June Durgan, 57, and Ronald Durgan, all of Craig, for unlawfully retaining herring in a herring pound by not releasing the fish as required. Arraignment set for 5/21/14 in Ketchikan District Court.

On 4/20/14 Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Michael Demmert, 28, Shelton Maves, 62, Titus Winrod, 32, and James Quigley, 52, all of Craig. The four were participating as permit holders in the Ernest Sound spawn-on-kelp commercial fishery. Investigation revealed they unlawfully retained herring in a herring pound by not releasing the fish as required. Arraignment set for 5/21/14 in Ketchikan District Court.

Location: Ernest Sound
Type: Unlawful retention of herring
On 4/20/14 Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted Shon Landon, 34, of Washington state, who was participating as a permit holder in the Ernest Sound spawn-on-kelp commercial fishery. Investigation revealed Landon unlawfully retained herring in a herring pound for more than six days. Landon was issued a summons to appear for arraignment in Ketchikan District Court.

Troller charged with illegal lingcod retention

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Warren Channel
Type: Bycatch violation
Investigation revealed that Barry Mckee, 65, of Sitka, the captain of the F/V Ocean Gem, retained lingcod on 1/24/14 while participating in the winter commercial troll fishery. Lingcod can only be taken as bycatch during the commercial troll season from May 16 through Nov. 30. Mckee was issued a citation for retaining lingcod during a closed period. He must appear in Craig District Court.

Charter crewman charged with keeping halibut

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Clover Bay, Prince of Wales Island
Type: Fish and game violations
On 9/13/13 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Ketchikan Post, filed formal charges against Austin S. Duckworth, 20, of Ketchikan, for working as a crewmember on a sportfish charter vessel and illegally retaining sport-caught halibut. In addition, Duckworth was charged for feeding black bears intentionally. He has a mandatory court appearance on 9/30/13 in Craig District Court.

Crabber in a pinch over bairdi retention

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Dutch Harbor
Type: Illegal possession of bairdi crab
On 4/16/12 Dutch Harbor Wildlife Troopers issued a summons to Christopher Scott Studeman, 27, of Reedsport, Ore., for illegally possessing bairdi crab onboard a Bering Sea opilio crab vessel he was operating. The Bering Sea bairdi fishery is closed this season. Arraignment set for 5/2/12 in Unalaska District Court.

Homer troopers make another octopus case

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Palmer
Type: Commercial fish closed season
On 12/28/11 Todd J. Hopkins, 39, of Palmer, was cited by Homer Wildlife Troopers for unlawfully retaining commercially caught octopus during a closed season. The incident occurred in May in Cook Inlet. Hopkins was given an arraignment date of 1/17/12 in Homer District Court.

Cook Inlet octopus retained illegally, troopers say

From the Alaska State Troopers:

Location: Juneau
Type: Commercial fish closed season
On 12/21/11 Paul D. Dau, 52, of Juneau, was cited by Homer Wildlife Troopers for unlawfully retaining commercially caught octopus during a closed season. The incident occurred in May in Cook Inlet. Dau was given an arraignment date of 1/31/12 in Homer District Court.
